The history of eugenics in the USA needs to be highlighted as it has a direct relationship to the 1905 Jacobsons v Massachusetts case. The Supreme Court decision to force a medical procedure (vax) was then used in the Buck v Bell case to allow public health authorities to legalise forced sterilisation on the selected ‘feeble minded’ poor to prevent them breeding. (Just like we’d neuter our cats and dogs.) 30 States wrote laws to enable this practice. Laws that were still on the books until 1985. 80,000 people were sterilised by stealth and force. Then Nixon rolled out a federal plan using funds to aid poverty, they were able to sterilise 400,000. Welfare payments were used to coerce compliance.
