THE MORAL IS:

YIDDEN ARE NOT PROTECTING THE TORAH . . .

figuratively and actually

What is going on in Bnei Brak?

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The scourge of rats which has been harming the residents of Bnei Brak in recent months continues unabated throughout the city. Worshipers in one of the shuls in the city were horrified to find that one of the Sifrei Torah in the city had been gnawed by the rodents- rendering it invalid.

This followed an attack on a two-year-old child a few weeks ago, who was bitten by a rat and required hospitalization.

Yaakov Wieder, a member of the city council and the head of the Likud faction, is leading the fight against the rats and other rodents and called on the government to deal with the situation.

chv's

“A quarter of a million residents of Bnei Brak are suffering from this terrible plague of rats and weasels which endanger life and limb and nobody cares,” Wieder said. “I call on the government to declare Bnei Brak a dangerous zone and to issue an injunction forcing the city to immediately take steps to eliminate this scourge.”

DID CITY OFFICIALS PURPOSELY GET RID OF ALL THE CATS?

I thought the same thing "Did city officials ....."
The cats are what really helps the reduction of the rats, etc. and Israel is
quite famous about having so many cats, so why is there such a decrease of cats in a
city where Torah is paramount? We all have noticed how Bnei Brak is so
much in the news these days - they have become the newest target.
Praying for redemption.

I'm fairly sure that it was the residents themselves who asked the city to get rid of the cats. In general, Orthodox Israeli Jews hate cats. Only we Anglos go around trying to save them all. I've had quite a few unpleasant encounters with neighbors in different places to understand this reality. The bigger issue is that we have totally messed up the natural ecosystem. Everything has a job, and if you just leave stuff alone, you'll find that you have no pests. One other note, why has there been no calls from the rabbonim in Bnei Brak to do teshuva or to find the spiritual cause of this plague. For certain, there is one, but once again, they turn to "science" to apply whatever to kill the rats.
