Several dogs in houses in Kfar Aza attacked the terrorists or barked at them repeatedly. In some cases the terrorists passed over some homes, fearing that they would be bitten by the dogs and thus a number of families were saved. Some of the dogs were shot by terrorists.
One of these was Bonita- a dog from Kfar Aza which barked at terrorists for several minutes. The terrorists were initially wary of the dog but then chased after her and shot her but then moved on elsewhere, maybe wary of other dogs in the house.
A family member of the owner described the horrendous situation. “Bonita was the direct saviour of our family. On Shabbat we were in the safer room when the terrorists shot up the salon.
There was a problem with the lock on the safe room and I held a pistol without bullets because I couldn’t find the cartridge. The terrorists would go from house to house and pepper with bullets but in our case Bonita charged at the terrorist, who killed her but went on to the next house.”
In other reported instances, dogs succeeded in fending off the attacks and saving lives, as terrorists were scared off by the canine’s barking and courage and preferred not to deal with them.
