JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Shlomo Ron knew that the Hamas terrorists were coming. He could hear the shots, the desperate cries, the calls of the evil terrorists as they continued their grisly butchering at Kibbutz Nahal Oz where he had lived for almost all of his 85 years.
Ron realized that his family were next- his wife, daughters and grandchild. He did not have any means to stop the terrorists- no firearm of any sort.
Taking a truly heroic split-second decision, Ron told his terrified family to enter the safe room. He then sat down in the living room, acting as if he were the only person in the house. Ron hoped that the terrorists would believe he was the only person in the house, and not bother to check the safe room.
Shlomo’s ruse worked – but at the cost of his life. The terrorists barged into his home, saw the defenseless old man and shot him to death. Shlomo’s family remained huddled in the dark safe room for 13 hours until they were rescued by IDF soldiers.
In a chilling facebook post, Ron’s friend Daniel Chaklai described the scene:
“Shlomo Ron wasn’t armed. He wasn’t a special forces member of a former general. Definitely not a seasoned combat soldier or a martial arts leader. Shlomo was just an old man, rather sickly, with a sweet smile and a warm countenance. Shlomo was a gentle and soft person who liked theater and music and books. He loved Chana and their daughters and their little grandson.
“Shlomo was just a soft-spoken Israeli with a moustache and spectacles. Just an Israeli who loved his wife and daughters and little grandson. But Shlomo was also a hero of Israel.”
