Rebbetzen Tziporah – Pesach Sheni

just received this, and there is only about 1/2 hour or so to eat your matzoh

29 DAYS, CHESED OF HOD

PESACH SHENI

This day has a special measure of holiness. Its root lies in the Torah’s narrative about this day. Some men approached Moshe and told him that they were unable to partake in the Pesach offering for reasons not of their making, and they don’t want to be deprived of the opportunity to be what they would have been if they were able to do so. Moshe was told that in their case they may offer the korban a month later, and make up for what they missed. Rambam in his discussion of this says that when the Bais HaMikdash was standing or the Mishkan was still there you could offer the make-up korban even if you missed the original one on purpose.

In general, if you miss the day of an offering, there isn’t anything to do about it other than to plan to do better in the future. Pesach sheni is the exception – it is the day when you can (so to speak) unspill the milk.  There is a custom to commemorate it by eating matzah (TG you can drop by my house to help me get rid of the 4 extra packages we have left over….) Rav Frisch explains the reason by quoting the Zohar:

“The community of Yisrael was crowned with great light on (the 14 of) Nissan. They didn’t remove the crown of light for 30 days (the 14th of Iyar). During these 30 days, the Shechina and her “armies” (spiritual forces of light and goodness) sit with these crowns, and are in a state of joy.   Whoever wants to “see the Queen” (meaning to experience the light of the Shechina) can do so throughout these 30 days. The announcement is made: whoever wasn’t able to experience the Shechina and to see Her light should come now before the gates are closed. When is this announcement made? On the 14th of the second month (from leaving Egypt) Iyar.  The gates remain open with the light of the 14th of Iyar for seven days, and then they close. Those who were not at the first Pesach can do Pesach Sheni.”

He also quotes the Yaavitz, who wrote that they had the matzah until the night of Pesach Shnei and then it was replaced with the mann, so it had the faith that went into the matzos that they took and also the beginning of the miracle of the mann. Therefore, on Pesach Sheni we eat matzah, (as they did in Egypt) but can also eat chametz (as they did afterwards)

Therefore, be a little extra happy (and even invite a minyan of modest talmedei chachamim to your home for a meal if you have the means, says the Chida). On a more practical level, this is a day to feel the simchah of all Hashem has done for you and to share your experiences with others. You can also thank Hashem for all of the future chesed that you are waiting for.

WITH PEOPLE

Look for extra acts of chesed you can do to inspire others to thank Hashem in gratitude. The way to do this is to first (before doing the chesed) awaken love for your friend in your heart. If you have to correct someone, try to do so with love, being pleasant and trying to get him to draw his positive conclusions on his own.

TIME- AWAKEN THE LOVE YOU FEEL TOWARDS HASHEM IN THE MORNING

TEFILLAH- “SELACH NA” - PLEASE FORGIVE
