Rebbetzen Tziporah – DAY 23, GVURAH OF NETZACH

 DAY 23, GVURAH OF NETZACH

You have seen the equivalent of Kriat Yam Suf – the splitting of the sea – in your own life; times when against all odds, Hashem did miracles (hidden or revealed ones) that demonstrated His power.

The result of Krias Yam Suf (splitting of the sea) was that, as it says in the text, “They believed in Hashem and in His servant Moshe”; this is the time for using the miracles you have seen to strengthen your emunah.

Miracles, and retribution against evil nations and individuals is not the only way to see Hashem’s power. Focusing on the force of His ability to have compassion upon us despite our sins, to be forbearing, is an act of great strength. This is a day in which being more patient, forgiving, and compassionate, (which demands great strength at times) in imitation of Hashem’s showing us His ability to step back and forgive is on today’s sefirot menu.

This is also a day for doing battle against the root of your sins, and not just refraining from the actual acts. For instance, the root of lashon hara is arrogance. Perhaps moving beyond the need to feel superior is really where your energy can go today. The method he recommends is letting the good within you (your desire to do Hashem’s will) win its battle with the part of you that wants only its own fulfillment.

WITH PEOPLE

Be strong in rejecting other people’s attempts to pull you down spiritually. If Chava didn’t “enter talks” with the snake, giving him credibility, but rather just stood strong and refused to have anything to do with him, she would have never fallen into the trap leading to the sin of eating from the tree of good and evil knowledge.

You can strengthen others in two ways. One is to give them the intellectual tools to fight their battles (especially by strengthening their regard for Chazal) and the other is to give them a dose of your being strong enough to be there for them in a consistent way (not just a one-time act of kindness). This shows your inner strength and your commitment to do Hashem’s will which will affect them through the power of example.
