DAY 30, GVURAH OF HOD
The stars and everything else you see when you look upwards and focus on one thing, by their very existence praise Hashem. Their power (gvurah) is their obedience to Hashem’s will. They are models of what it means to have Hashem’s will and their will being synonymous. Now look “upwards” in another sense and focus on the lives of the tzadikim who achieve the same thing. This is what gvurah is about, and their lives and their being models what glorifying Hashem really means, which is “hodaya”, the heart’s version of applause.
Now look at Hashem’s revealed power as He does the miracles that we all see in our own times. Move the vision away from Klal Yisrael for a moment, and go to His interventions in your own life. It’s easy to relegate events to a sort of encyclopedia of something called “history” without noticing that this is what you have done.
Your words can glorify Hashem, and act as a Kiddush Hashem. Lashon hara by its nature does the opposite. It conceals Hashem.
WITH PEOPLE
Express gratitude to the people in your life who have been there for you. This can be simple: saying that what they did or do means something to you, or thinking of what you can give back to them using your words to share insights or ideas. An example might be sharing the way Hashem has blessed you with others which strengthens them and brings them closer to Him. When you do this with enthusiasm and heart (and this can even be by saying a bracha out loud) you have potentially done something significant for them in their ability to relate to Hashem’s power and glory.
Be careful not to do the opposite – praising the reshaim (such as Hamas) for their remarkable success on Oct 7. By its nature, the success of those who are genuinely evil is temporary and acts as a challenge to your emunah.
