FIRST RAINS COME TO BLESS ERETZ YISRAEL

Israel's first rains fell during the week-long holiday of Sukkot, providing hope for the Kinneret's (Sea of Galilee) recovery.

In September, Water Authority spokesman Uri Shore said that the Kinneret hit a record low in August, and "if God forbid the coming winter is similar to the previous four, then our water sources are going to be in huge trouble."

Monday morning will see rain showers in Israel's north and center, Israel Meteorological Service reported. There may be isolated thunderstorms, and the northern Negev may experience light rains.

Temperatures will drop significantly, becoming lower than seasonal average. The rain will lighten towards afternoon.ArutzSheva

“rain will come in its time;
there will be plenty of rain,
there will be four good seasons
and the weather will be very good in Israel.”

I thought rain during a chag, simcha, etc. is not a blessing because it ruins the enjoyment?

If you read the text you would understand that we are desperate for water. Any rain from Shamayim is a blessing.

Greetings from the Holyland !!! What is the exact blessing of this rain on Sukkot, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to leave the holy sukkah???? Without getting into the whole halachic discussion ,most opinion is that it's a curse ! Rabbi Ben Arzi also said there would be plenty of rain last year. Praying for Am Yisrael to get back into their sukkot !!!!! All the best...... Yehuda Richter

Reb Dov Bar Leib wrote:

Today's rain event in Eretz Yisrael on the 5th day of Sukkot. The Ushpiz for today was Aharon HaKohen. His Midah that he perfected during his lifetime was Hod (Glory). Today was the first day of rain here in Israel to "kick off" the rainy season. We hold off mentioning rain in our davening until Hoshana Rabbah, and we hold off mentioning rain in Shmoneh Esrei until Musaph of Shmini Atzereth when we have already left the Sukkah for the Chag. We do so for two primary reasons.

1. We don't want to open our mouths in Shmoneh Esrei, mentioning that rain might fall in Eretz Yisrael, in order to not give the Satan permission to ask HaShem that it should rain while we are sitting or sleeping in the Sukkah forcing us to go inside and nullifying our ability to fulfill this mitzvah.

And 2. While the actual judgement for how much rain will fall all over the Globe is decided during Sukkot, specifically on Hoshana Rabbah, the Judgement for how much rain will fall in Eretz Yisrael is decided on Shmini Atzereth when we are already inside our houses for the long winter. So we pray for rain all over the Globe on Hoshana Rabbah, and we pray for rain in Eretz Yisrael on Shmini Atzereth during Musaph.

The keys for rain all over the world are given to the ministering angels of the various lands throughout the world, BUT the key to rain in Eretz Yisrael is only held by G-d Himself. So a rain event in Israel during Sukkot is highly significant. It rained today on the 5th day of Sukkot, and it seems to have dried out for the rest of Sukkot for the last two days. So HaShem is telling us that He is displeased about our midah of Hod specifically. The level of Hod that is in Hod is of course our favorite number 33. So we have all inculcated the American midah of serving G-d to make money, but in order to welcome Mashiach, we have to divorce ourselves from the American worldview in its entirety by serving Him lishma in order to build Olam HaBa. We are lead by leaders like Bibi who are immersed in this American worldview, and it is time to make a break from our dependence on American protection and American culture as a source of our worldview. That is, I believe, the message of the rain event today on the 5th day of Sukkot.

Wow, I touched a nerve here.

We shall see what the winter season held for us by spring.

Neshama, I did read the text and I did understand what was written. You didn't understand why I questioned. It was a nice way of saying that the writing wasn't accurate... Thanks to all who concur that rain on Sukkoth is not a blessing.
