Chol hamoed , Wednesday April 24
With the land in full bloom ; where yesterday's and today's heroes meet
We begin with a visit to "Herodian'', one of Israel's most spectacular historical / archeological sites.
Built as a unique palace - a fortress by King Herod "the Great '' it towers over biblical landscape and its excavations take us deep into our ancient, glorious history.
I am told there is a very new and exciting presentation that I am eager to see.
The "Eytam" farm -
We will meet Sheik" Mordechai on his farm south of Efrat.
The local Arabs call this modern Daniel Boone, the sheik.
Mordechai left Brooklyn for the frontiers of Eretz Yisrael, always pushing the boundaries of Jewish presence and guarding our land from Arab encroachment.
Remarkably , the local Arabs respectfully call upon this fearless, rugged pioneer to decide their disputes.
Biblical Eytam is where Shmishon slew the Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey.
Also on this site was discovered a section of the aqueduct that brought water to Yerushalayim in the Second temple period.
We continue to the colorful village of Bat Ayin.
There we will see one of the best examples of a Second Temple period wine press and mikvah before hearing from a local resident about the unique story of this place.
This is the only Jewish village in Judea that refuses to be fenced in for security reasons. Their independent spirit and faith sets them apart.
Similarly, Arabs do not enter.
Jewish labor only.
