A Halachic Mess of DC!

Rav Elya Brudny and other Gedolim Issue Warning About DC Rally

VINnews) — A letter signed by five members of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah of Agudath Yisrael late Monday night is urging those who ‘fear the word of Hashem’ not to attend the rally in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.

[me: notice in the sky. Is that part of a Magen David? Or are we seeing those toxic sprays?]

The letter reads: “Whose heart isn’t pained and broken over the plight of Acheinu Bnei Yisrael on those who were murdered Al Kiddush Hashem, and those wounded, they should be healed quickly, and on those in captivity, they should be returned quickly in good health to their families.”

“And Bnei Torah, all the more so, should be pained by the pain of Yisrael and grab hold of the ‘craft of our forefathers’ – the Kol Kol Yaakov – by increasing Kol Torah and tefillah, to increase our עסק בתורה and increase our cries and pleas to Hashem Yisbarach that He should save us from the tzarah with His great mercy.”

“However, despite the fact that all our hearts are pained and mourn the tzarah of the klal, we are conveying our opinion that no one who is ‘חרד לדבר ה’ should participate in the general rally that is being held, as its organizers and participants are not משלומי אמוני ישראל. And as is known, the opinion of our Rabbanim, z’tl whose mesorah we hold, warned us from joining with religious streams who are far from the Derech HaTorah and Mesorah. And especially after the speakers’ schedule of the rally was published, and it is known to all that the main speakers are a mixture of people whose entire essence is the opposite of Torah and yirah and tzninus, r’l.

Since then, the matter is simple – we must distance ourselves from them and the masses.”

“And therefore, all who fear the word of Hashem should not participate in this rally but should act differently – לא בחיל ולא בכח כי אם ברוחי אמר ה’ צבקות – by increasing Torah and tefillah and strengthening our emunah and bitachon in Hakadosh Baruch Hu and doing teshuvah for our faults. We should fulfill עת צרה היא ליעקב וממנה יושע במהרה בימינו.”

“And we’ll use this opportunity to voice our great gratitude to the US government, the malchus of chessed, on its generous and continued support for the needs of our brothers in Eretz Yisrael.

The OU Position

Rabbi Moshe Hauer, Executive VP of the Orthodox Union, joined Fox News to discuss why a massive pro-Israel rally is taking place in Washington on Tuesday, and what its goals are.

Rabbi Hauer told host Harris Faulkner that the rally is to “project the voice of the Jewish people, of the State of Israel, which is a voice of peace of voice that seeks and pursues life in everything that it does.”
Yes, even in those horrific pictures from Gaza, those horrific pictures of of destruction, there isn’t a bomb which is dropped to kill. Everything which is done is done to save. We are a nation which is completely obsessively pursuing peace. And we need to pursue the peace and the safety of our people,” he added.
The rally is also intended to shore up and solidify support for Israel among Congress members.

“We want Congress, first of all, to continue in its very strong support of Israel to defend itself,” he said. “We want Congress and… everyone in the world, when they speak about humanitarianism to spend three minutes speaking about the hostages before speaking about safe passages – which the Israelis are busy doing.”

“And finally,” Rabbi Hauer said, “we want them to come away with a commitment to make America again free of antisemitism, to make the antisemitism that is exploding off of our university campuses – places of higher education that seem to be failing at basic values – to make them safe places, friendly places for Jews and for everyone.”

The Jerusalem Post Adds:

Israel's Law of Return extends to widowers of eligible Jews, court rules

The Israeli branch of the Reform movement argued to the court that immigration rights should also extend to the widows of children and grandchildren of Jews. The Israel Supreme Court upheld an earlier ruling that the non-Jewish widows of the children and grandchildren of Jews may emigrate to Israel under its Law of Return.

The 4-3 ruling this week was an example of the court’s role in determining Israeli policy, a capacity that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government had sought for months to diminish prior to the outbreak of Israel’s war with Hamas on October 7. Critics of the judicial overhaul contended that sapping the judiciary of its power endangered Israeli democracy.

The ruling is also a victory for those who want Israel to extend the rights and privileges of citizenship to a broader range of Jews and their relatives.
