TUG OF WAR: UPDATE: Police and Arab Terrorists Rampage vs Settlers

Smotrich freezes outpost demolition - but Galant overrules freeze order

Arabs rampage through newly-built hilltop outpost, assaulting Jews as police begin demolition - in violation of right-wing ministers’ orders

Israeli police forces began dismantling a newly-established hilltop outpost community in Samaria Friday afternoon, just hours after the outpost was established. Jewish settlement activists erected a number of structures on a hilltop adjacent to the existing town of Migdalim in Samaria overnight, dubbing the outpost “Ohr HaHaim,” in honor of the late Religious Zionist spiritual leader, Rabbi Haim Druckman.

The Defense Ministry’s Civil Administration declared the area a closed military zone and ordered the immediate destruction of the structures. Activists on the scene say Arabs from neighboring towns attacked the outpost during the demolition, assaulting Jews and injuring at least one. Witnesses report Arab rioters hurled stones at activists, while Israeli security forces present at the scene did not intervene.

MK Limor Son Har-Hameleh (Otzma Yehudit) joined activists in protesting the demolition, calling on security personnel to halt the evacuation.

The demolition was launched despite orders by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir (Otzma Yehudit) and Minister in the Defense Ministry Bezalel Smotrich (Religious Zionist Party).

UPDATE:

JEWISH PRESS WROTE:

Coalition crisis number one; the cause: the High Court of Justice. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is expected to sack Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri on Sunday during his cabinet meeting, in keeping with the order of the High Court ruling. The sacking will be carried out in coordination with Deri who did not agree to resign. His dismissal from two government ministries, Interior and Health, will take effect on Tuesday morning, 26 days into the life of Netanyahu’s sixth government. At this point, it is not yet clear how Shas will respond in terms of its coalition membership.

Coalition crisis number two; the cause: Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich is expected to boycott Sunday’s cabinet meeting along with all the ministers of his Religious Zionist party. The reason is the chain of events last Friday in which the new outpost Or Haim in Samaria was dismantled and evacuated by the Civil Administration, which, according to the coalition agreement, should be reporting to Smotrich. Minister Gallant and the Civil Administration ignored written communication from Smotrich asking them to halt the evacuation until after Sunday’s cabinet meeting. At this point, it is not yet clear how Religious Zionism will respond in terms of its coalition membership.
