That's right Neshama. They both have a point, both right and both a little wrong where they don't see the full answer right in front of them. Everything is m'Shamayim. The 'state' of Israel was established as the prelude to the total ingathering of the exiles. By the affirmation of the nations that we come back home to EY we see the great miracle (of course, the price of the shoah was the push - the gutskeit of the nations) so Smotrich was right, but Eichler was right also that the prime minister of Israel should never say that G-D didn't protect the Yehudim; HE is always there Watching over His people and His Land, but I don't think the PM meant it the way it came out.
When it comes to EY, we have to be careful with the 'words'. H's Shchina is there from the beginning of the year until the end of the year; in other words. it never leaves EY. It is our behaviors that need to be rectified. No need to besmirch one another but it's a good reminder that Hashem is King and is Watching over us all the time.
