Rav Kook: Passover, the Festival of Faith
A boundless faith—that is Israel’s heritage.
It began to shine forth in their exodus from Egypt
Etched into the fabric of their lives
In that moment of haste.” (Rav Kook, Shemonah Kevatzim)
In that moment of chipazon and haste, the Jewish people stepped into the unknown, following Moses into a vast and barren wilderness. They had no certainty—only trust. And in that trust, they found freedom. The matzah we eat on Seder night is not just the bread of affliction. It is "the bread of faith," a reminder of the courage it takes to walk forward when the path is unclear.
The past year and a half have revealed Israel's wonderful resources of faith. Soldiers leaving their families, risking their lives to defend our people. Jews around the world deepening their commitment, standing tall as proud Jews, even when the world turns against them.
May those still held captive return home in time to taste the matzah of freedom. And may this be the year of redemption—for them, for us, for all Israel.
"In Nissan we were redeemed, and in Nissan we will be redeemed once again."
With wishes for a chag kasher v’sameach,
