Fall Back ... Spring Ahead! It’s getting colder NOW

 

While the media and the medical establishment are actively cheerleading for every man, woman and child to get this year’s flu vaccine, they are doing so in the face of overwhelming evidence that shows this year’s vaccine doesn’t work.

 

According to the University of Minnesota, this year’s flu vaccine was entirely ineffective against the flu in South America (who experience the seasonal flu before those of us here in North America):

 

The effectiveness of the seasonal flu vaccine against hospitalization among high-risk groups during the 2024 seasonal flu season in five Southern Hemisphere countries was low (35%), down from 50% in 2023.

 

Even the Centers for Disease Control is admitting that the experience of our neighbors to the south is likely to be replicated here in North America during this fall and winter:

 

"While Southern Hemisphere data cannot predict exactly what will happen in the Northern Hemisphere, what we can say is that if we see similar influenza viruses (strains or clades) circulating this season in the Northern Hemisphere, we can expect similar vaccine effectiveness against influenza-related hospitalizations," lead author Erica Zeno, PhD, epidemic intelligence service officer with the CDC’s Influenza Division, told CIDRAP News in an email.

 

This flu season, the United States is using trivalent (three-strain) vaccines with the same components as those in Southern Hemisphere vaccines, Zeno said.

 

 

The Seasonal Flu is Particularly Dangerous for Older Adults

 

While the flu can be a major inconvenience for many, for some the flu can be deadly. Indeed, older Americans should be ever more vigilant about the seasonal flu. According to the National Institute on Aging:

 

The flu is more dangerous for older adults for a few reasons. One reason is that the immune system — which helps your body fight infections — weakens as you age. For example, because your body is busy fighting off the flu, you might pick up a secondary infection such as pneumonia. A second reason is that older adults are also more likely to have other health conditions, like diabetes, that increase their risk for complications from the flu.

 

Indeed, in the 2021-2022 flu season, roughly 5,000 Americans died of the flu – of that number, over 80% were aged 65 or older.
