DAY 41, YESOD OF YESOD
It is important to realize that keeping the laws of taharas mishpachah have an effect on your future children.
The first step you may want to take (even if you are not yet married) is relating to how you use the material world with an eye towards kedushah. This means not being over-indulgent in how you eat, drink, etc., so that the way you relate to the physical world isn’t in conflict with how you relate to your personal spiritual goals.
One way to achieve this goal is to find people more spiritually advanced than you. (Rav Frisch suggests true tzadikim, but they may be a bit difficult to find.) Sometimes you learn a great deal from example. (When we visited Rav Chaim’s house in Bnei Brak, the lesson in simple décor in a home that thousands of people came to, didn’t escape me.)
WITH PEOPLE
Do what you can in a quiet way to encourage people to keep the laws that relate to taharah. One way is to contribute financially towards the upkeep and building of mikvas. Nowadays some mikvas are so beautiful that they would put the nicest spa to shame. This is a beautiful statement about the degree that ordinary (and some more than ordinary) people go to beautify a mitzvah.
Making peace between people (especially mentoring married couples if you are skilled or trained to do so) is a great mitzvah. The yesod (foundation) of our people is marital peace.
Joy, yes! Ordinary joy, the real deal, makes the covenantal relationship we have to Shabbos, weddings, and even when attending a bris is one of the foundations of kedushah. People often fall into the trap of escapist behaviors when they are depressed or when life has no joy. Go for a joke, a smile, or a song if it lifts your spirit and the spirits of those around you
