Germany has reported an outbreak of the "highly pathogenic" H5N8 bird flu virus in a backyard in the southwestern part of the country, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said on Monday, according to a Reuters report. The virus killed 44 birds out of a flock of 69 in Bretzfeld, in the Baden-Wurttemberg region, the Paris-based OIE said, citing a report from Germany's food and agriculture ministry.
BRAZIL
Scientists in Brazil have discovered a virus which appears to be almost entirely new, consisting of unrecognizable genes that have been, until now, undocumented.
The Yaravirus (Yaravirus brasiliensis), named after a water deity in Brazilian mythology and folklore, was discovered in Lake Pampulha in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte.

Rav Bitten by Mosquito After Two Weeks
Rav Yitzchaki, 66, who served as one of the leading shochtim in Paraguay for the Israeli Rabbanut for many years, fell ill after being bitten by a mosquito in the South American country about two weeks ago. According to his family, the mosquito carried a disease that caused the Rav to develop a lung infection which eventually killed him. He was hospitalized in Paraguay and his family flew there to sit by his bedside, communicating with the medical staff through an interpreter.
The Rav was flown to Israel in very serious condition and was hospitalized in the ICU of Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva. Unfortunately, he passed away on Sunday as he was undergoing emergency surgery. arutzsheva
