Could the Deal of the Century really resolve a cosmic conflict of 4,000 years?

Well, the dream is over. Jared Kushner, the faithful envoy to the Middle East, has brought all the dreamers back down to earth. President Trump’s recent decision to publicly recognize Israel’s sovereignty over contended parts of Eretz Yisrael had many of us on a high, and it certainly was uplifting, and even somewhat intoxicating, to hear such unprecedented words from a world leader. Now the president’s highly influential son-in-law has broken the spell and brought down the soaring expectations of many Israelis. It turns out that sovereignty over the territories in Judea and Samaria isn’t going to happen so fast.

One pin to the pink balloon. The other pin, of course, was aimed from Ramallah. Mahmoud Abbas, or Abu Mazen as he has long been known, has told the world in no uncertain terms that he will play no part in the Americans’ show. He’s been busy rounding up all the evil forces in the international community to back him in opposing the Deal of the Century, which he refuses even to discuss. Trump, savvy businessman that he is, thought that dangling billions of dollars in front of the Palestinians would tempt them into accepting the status of an independent mini-state no bigger than a Swiss canton. But he and his entire staff thereby demonstrated their lack of understanding of the proud Arab character. These sons of the desert sands will fight to the bitter end to defend their honor, though they pay for it with their lives.

So Jared Kushner comes along to clarify the matter and inform us all that the situation is, in fact, rather complicated. To the disappointment of the dreamers on the right, who were infected by the complimentary words of the US president, the reality is that even annexing the Jordan Valley territories is not quite within Israel’s reach at this point in time, all the American good will notwithstanding. This is the Middle East, after all, and Western concepts don’t apply here. How did we fail to think of that before, when the media was broadcasting so much excitement, and even some of the frum news outlets heard echoes of Mashiach’s footsteps in the president’s warm and stirring words? Some even deluded
themselves into thinking the Arabs would accept a plan that was, from their point of view, humiliating. For those who aren’t familiar with their culture, it is a very serious thing to humiliate an Arab, and no logical calculation will affect his response. Kavod is the be-all and end-all of the Arab spirit, and the Americans’ failure to take this major factor into account when they sat and talked among themselves about their Deal of the Century meant that their plan was doomed from the start.

All this, of course, is in the political realm. But we know that the roots of the conflict go much deeper. They are implanted in a spiritual reality that the sponsors of the peace plan did not, could not, have taken into account. In essence, this is not a war between Israelis and Palestinians, but one more round in an age-old struggle between our respective patriarchs, Yitzchak and Yishmael. It is a conflict that cannot be resolved through diplomatic channels, nor by political maneuvering, nor even by military might. The solution is not in human hands at all; it’s entirely in the Divine realm.

The holy Zohar teaches:
“Woe for that hour when Hagar preceded Sarah, when Sarah said to Avraham, come to my maidservant, and Yishmael was born. This was Hagar’s hour, and she had a son from Avraham, and Avraham said, would that Yishmael live before You. Although HaKadosh Baruch Hu had promised him a son from Sarah, Avraham Avinu clung to his son Yishmael to the point where HaKadosh Baruch Hu promised him and Yishmael, ‘I have heard you….’ Woe for that hour that Yishmael was born, and in the merit of the mitzvah of his circumcision, he won an enduring place in the Holy Land until Yitzchak was born.

“Come and see: For 400 years the minister of the Ishmaelite people stood and petitioned before HaKadosh Baruch Hu. He said to Him, does one who has the mitzvah of milah have a portion in Your Name? He answered, yes. If so, then I have a portion in Your Name…. Woe to that time when Yishmael was born into the world and was circumcised. What did HaKadosh Baruch Hu do? He removed Bnei Yishmael from their cleaving to the upper world and gave them a portion below, in the Holy Land, because of that merit [circumcision]. And the children of Yishmael are destined to have control over the Holy Land when it is empty [of the Jewish People] for a lengthy period of time, just as their circumcision is void and incomplete. And they will obstruct the children of Israel from returning to their place until such time that the children of Yishmael have been fully rewarded for that merit.

“And the children of Yishmael will instigate harsh wars against the children of Israel when they return to the Holy Land, as long as their circumcision gives them rights over the Land.”

These excerpts from the Zohar teach us that the roots of our struggle are far removed from the mundane politics that we get so caught up in. While we try to deal with existential threats through political channels, the Zohar shows us a fundamentally different map of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It dates back not to 1948 or to the First Zionist Congress; it is a cosmic struggle that began in the days of Avraham Avinu, and will continue for as long as Bnei Yishmael’s zechus hamilah endures.

As people of faith, we have a duty to look beneath and beyond current political developments and instead qualify current events in the light of Torah. With this deeper insight into the age-old conflict, so resistant to resolution, we’re not surprised that the ancient argument — Yishmael’s specious claim that as Avraham’s firstborn, Eretz Yisrael is rightfully his — still echoes in the mouths of Abu Mazen and the rest of the terrorists at the helm in Ramallah and Gaza. And so it will be, until the cosmic balance shifts and the wheel turns, ushering in the Geulah Sheleimah.

Were they quarantined for 14 days BEFORE being among the IDF?
Otherwise:
I hope they realise that daily checks mean nothing because the incubation period is 14 days within which NO SYMPTOMS appear until full-blown ill. It is “before they become ill that they infect anyone near them and more.” 
Therefore, during all the time these “persons” are going among IDF soldiers “they” could be infecting them. This could lead to major sections of the IDF being quarantined and not available for action in defence of Eretz Yisrael.

In his lecture at the end of December, before coming to Israel, at 1:08 into the video, (I received from Hashem to begin speaking about SARS (2003), 8000 were dying (caught from the air and peoples breath) then all of a sudden it disappeared.

Today we have the Coronavirus, not like any other virus.

Thinking logically, 1) *Hashem will kill whatever number, and then it will stop; 2) in about a year we will all be *dead.

In the coming weeks, no imports from China; no flight in or out of Israel; situation will get so bad that the govt will quarantine all Israelis to their own homes. If one does not have the virus, he will live; the others will die at home.
The Chinese Embassy said to the Jews, "we opened the door to the Jews during the Holocaust, please do not close the door on us.”

The Rabbi said to amass as much can foods and dry goods to last you a year, in the event you are quarantined in your home.

There is a Midrash, that before the Mashiach comes, Hashem will bring a disease that will kill most of the people of the world.

Measure for measure, because you (China) eliminate (eat) dogs (and so many other despicable creatures), you wear the masks and have a face like a dog. [let me add to this that because they eat anything that crawls, they are forced to wear masks to cover their despicable mouths]

Parshas Beshallach describes events encompassing tremendous contrasts: fear and triumph, peace and war.

After Am Yisroel miraculously breaks free of Golus Mitzraim, we fall into contention with our redeemer, Moshe Rabbeinu, and are immediately confronted with our nemesis, Amalek.

What is wrong with us! Why don’t we get the “program?” 

And now, after some three thousand years, have we learned from our mistakes?

Freedom, the “kiss of Esav,” is perhaps our greatest challenge. When my wife and I visited Germany, we were told how Jews over the centuries had passed every nisayon – even on pain of death, G-d forbid! – until they were confronted by the nisayon of freedom. When the ghetto doors were opened and non-Jews let us join their world, that test proved the most difficult!

“All over Europe …. there was a breakdown. Of course there were frum Jews too, but all over, Am Yisroel was defecting from the Torah .… They used to make parades … with big signs, ‘We declare war on the [rabbonim and the frum Jews.]’ … Rav Elchonen Wasserman said, ‘You are declaring war on Hashem? So Hashem will declare war on you!’” (Rabbi Avigdor Miller on

We need to review these lessons because “l’dor v’dor … in every generation” they recur, and we need to understand what is happening today. As it says, “As in the days of your exodus from the Land of Egypt, I will show him wonders.” (Michah 7:15) The Chofetz Chaim tells us this possuk refers to the Geulah Shelemah.

Daf Yomi learners recently studied the Chazal which teaches that one must mention Yetzias Mitzraim “all the days of your life.” (Berachos 12b)

“Behold, days are coming … when people will no longer say, ‘As Hashem lives, Who brought the Children of Israel up from the Land of Egypt,’ but rather ‘As Hashem lives, who brought up and brought back the offspring of the House of Israel from the Land of the north and from all the lands wherein he had dispersed them.” (Yirmiah 23:7ff) [This does] not [mean] that [the mention of] the Exodus from Egypt will be uprooted from its place, but rather that [the mention of the Final Redemption] will be primary.” (ibid)

The coming Redemption, my friends, will clearly be so massive that almost nothing since Beraishis will be of greater magnitude. I will remind readers of the moshul I heard concerning the Pesach Seder. When we remove ten drops of wine from the kos keneged the Eser Makkos, there is no appreciable difference in the volume of the kos. The amount remaining compared to the amount removed is comparable to the scale of the Geulah Shelemah as compared to the scale of Yetzias Mitzraim!

We are witnessing today the preparation for a Redemption that will change the face of the earth. If we are confronting difficult nisyanos, we should know that each of these is necessary to prepare us for an era of unending kedusha, tahara and dvaykus with Hashem! If we keep this in mind, the very greatness of that day will give us the strength to endure until we see it!

When Pharaoh drew close, the Children of Israel lifted up their eyes, 

and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, 

and they were sore afraid. The Children of Israel cried out to G–D. (Shemos 14:10)

WHAT DO YOU want from me? How many times have people asked this question of G–D? It usually comes up when they think they are being fair to G–D, but G–D is being unfair to them. “I’m trying to get it right?” they are saying. “Why do You keep after me?”

The Jews at the sea must have asked that question A LOT. They had followed Moshe Rabbeinu out of Egypt and into the desert and, as the Torah says, without provisions. Unlike the 12,000,000 Jews who died in the Plague of Darkness, they had remained loyal to the idea of redemption until the end. 

They had offered the Korban Pesach and made the break from idol worship. The had put the blood on the doorposts and survived the final plague. What more did G–D want from them that He had allowed the Egyptians to not only survive the plagues, but to assemble a mighty army and cut them off by the sea! Would it EVER end?!

Let’s say you meet someone for the first time. You strike up a conversation, and maybe end up spending some time together. You may be suspicious of them at first, but after a while, you feel the other person is genuine. 

Then the person turns to you and says, “You can trust me to help you out in any way at any time. Just call me when you’re in trouble.”

You graciously thank your new friend while you secretly wonder what that even means. How can someone SO new become SO reliable SO quickly? 

Time passes and you all of a sudden need help with something important. You ask your family and friends, but they either don’t want to help or can’t. Feeling stuck, you remember your new friend from some time back and wonder how sincere they were about helping you out in trouble. You hesitate at first, but then have little choice but to make the call.

To your surprise and delight, they not only remember you, they say yes to your call for help without even first hearing what you need. “Of course I’ll help you,” they say. “I told you that you could rely upon on me to help you out. Now what do you need.”

You explain your plight, wondering at what point the friend will say, “Oh, you need THAT. Maybe I CAN’T help you after all.”  

But they never do. Instead, they listen attentively the whole time, even making the appropriate noises at the right time to show sympathy and empathy. When you finish, they simply say, “I have an idea…” and proceed to come up with a good plan of attack to solve your problem, and it works.

But no sooner do you solve one problem than another springs up, and it seems to be even MORE serious. Even though your new friend has proven themself to be reliable and generous, you feel bad asking them for additional help, especially so soon after the first effort.

However, they notice your face of concern and force it out of you. Slowly you spill the beans, and again, they listen to every word as if they were your closest friend ever. That alone makes you feel better, to know you have someone who cares as much about you as you do about yourself. You wish you had known them longer.

Once again, they save your day. They help you out of your problem completely, and you feel more gratitude than you could ever show. “It’s enough for me,” they tell you, “that you know you can always rely upon me in times of need.”

“You know,” you tell them, “I would never have thought so, not after just meeting. I have family and friends I have known my whole life who wouldn’t come to my aid for even smaller matters. You came through for me, a NEW friend during two really LARGE crises! It’s just so impressive…and so reassuring!”

The analogy should be clear by now. WE may be familiar with G–D after all that has happened for the Jews over the last couple millennia, but the Jews in Egypt had not been. They had become detached from G–D because of assimilation, and then slavery, and for many of them, G–D had become more of a fiction than a fact.

Even after Moshe Rabbeinu showed up to reacquaint the Jewish people with the G–D of their fathers, how did they know that G–D would save them? And even after G–D saved them once, how did they know He would save them again, and again, and again? 

But He did. G–D created a scenario at the sea specifically so that the Jewish people would see that G–D cared about them always, and was prepared to save them at every turn. They, we, just have to believe in that, and then G–D will run to our aid: 

Had the Jewish people constantly strengthened themselves so that their lives and hearts were given over to G–D, He would have promised them that the revelation of the great light of Atika Kadisha would not leave them even while in the desert. And they would not have had to look at the Sitra Achra and his schemes at all because all of it was just a test. (Dru-shei Olam HaTohu, Chelek 2, Drush 5, Anaf 4, Siman 3)

In short, the spiritual mechanisms that try and test us in life become powerless in the face of bitachon, trust in G–D. So many times even when we haven’t really fulfilled our part of the bargain G–D has come to our rescue. How much more so when we do.

Obviously one of the reasons for our LACK of confidence in G–D and His promises of redemption is the disasters we have experienced when, seemingly, He has NOT come through for the Jewish people, in the recent and the distant past. We mourn righteous people who perished at the hands of enemies, or even just from sickness, and they clearly HAD trusted in G–D. 

The Leshem deals with that question regarding some of the great rabbis of the past, explaining that though their bitachon COULD have saved them from disaster, THEY chose to die al Kiddush Hashem, sanctifying G–D’s Name instead. 

He also explains the difference between periods when there is a Divine decree against the Jewish people, and when there isn’t. You can’t insult your new friend and then ask him to save you from your own self-destruction. Likewise, if the Jewish people insist on living as if G–D isn’t there, can they then expect Him to step in and save them from problems?

It’s a longer discussion, for sure. The main point is, you cannot LOSE by trusting in G–D. And if you’re consistently sincere about it, then you can only GAIN. THAT’S what G–D wants from us, and inserts into our lives through its many challenging events.

Israeli innovators brainstorm solutions for Australia bushfires

Some 150 Israeli tech wizards worked all night to come up with the best ideas to help Australia in battling the bushfire crisis. Last Thursday, some 150 Israeli developers and activists gathered in Tel Aviv for an all-night hackathon aimed at relieving the dire situation in Australia.

Called #StandWithAus, the event saw 17 projects materialize by early Friday morning, each meant to ease the crisis in the fire-torn country. How to stop a plague of locusts

There is a real life plague of biblical proportions happening now in East Africa. It’s hitting Ethiopian, Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti and Eritrea – Horn of Africa countries and it’s threatening the Middle East. It’s the worst for Ethiopia and Somalia in 25 years and the worst for Kenya had experienced in over 70 years.

Let’s spell out what this means. When people don’t have food to eat, they go hungry or eat less nutritious food like bread. When people are hungry for a long time, health and political situations break down. This is what happened in Syria ten years ago. A breakdown from hunger, climate change, lack of water. Desperate people do desperate things. Conflict worsens or it will erupt.

The United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has assembled $15.4 million USD for instant aid as part of the $76 million requested from five countries. The outbreak will likely spread to other countries, in particular South Sudan and Uganda. Images we have here are from Yemen.

Again, this outbreak is not just about keeping people hungry. It’s about keeping conflict in check. Without help, large regions of Africa and the Middle East can be unstable.

It’s a region we already know suffers from food security, political fragility and climate change. The effects is East Africa will ripple up to Egypt, Israel, and the rest of the Middle East, and eventually Europe as migrants from these countries flee poverty, food security, and climate change.

Ten years ago I was invited to a panel on water security with Middle East countries, sponsored by the Swiss and Swedish governments because they know that water insecurity, pest infestation and climate change are all linked. If stable and democratic nations in Europe want to live as they are now there is a pressing need to help others before they lose hope.

“Timing and location is crucial. I hope we can work hard day and night so people do not lose their crops,” Qu Dongyu, the director of the FAO said.



Worst insect pest in the world

The Desert Locust is considered the most destructive migratory pest in the world and a small swarm covering one square kilometer (about half a square mile) can eat the same amount of food in one day as 35,000 people.

Pasture and croplands have already suffered damage in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia and there are potentially severe consequences for the region where nearly 12 million people are coping with severe acute food insecurity and many rely on agriculture for their survival.

The UN’s experts are on the ground, supporting control operations and initiating efforts to safeguard livelihoods, particularly of those already experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity. They are working closely with these countries as well as their neighbours, Djibouti and Eritrea, while monitoring Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen for any developments.

“We need to act immediately because the locusts don’t wait, they will come and they will destroy,” said Maria Helena Semedo, FAO Deputy Director-General for Climate and Natural Resources. “We need to tackle the emergency but we need to think about livelihoods and the long-term.”

FAO’s Desert Locust Information Service says the situation is extremely alarming and will be further exacerbated by new infestations expected in early April.

Swarms of locusts invading Kenya

In Kenya alone, large swarms, up to 60 km long and 40 km wide, invaded all the country’s northern counties and some central areas in less than a month, causing substantial damage to crops and livestock deprived of pastureland. A total of 13 counties have so far been affected in Kenya.

A new generation of locusts is expected to hatch in February and with new swarms expected in early April that would coincide with the next season of planting. At that time, the seasonal winds will have shifted to the north, which is likely to allow the newly formed swarms in Kenya to reinvade Ethiopia and Somalia as well as to migrate to new areas of South Sudan and Sudan.

The rise in numbers is causing serious concern about the swarms in northern Kenya as they are only 200 kilometres from the country’s borders with South Sudan and Uganda. Both countries last faced locust invasions in 1961.

"For the Palestinians, if they want their people to live better lives, we now have a framework to do it," he said.

Kushner added: "The only thing more dangerous than what we have now is a failed state."

Trump unveiled the plan in a White House event attended by a smiling Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who applauded it as "a great plan for Israel... (and) a great plan for peace."

No Palestinian Authority officials were present at the unveiling.

Mahmoud Abbas, chief of the Palestinian Authority, said the plan reflected a persistent pro-Israel bias by the Trump administration and that it "will not pass."

Kushner has been criticized for what some saw as harsh language directed at the Palestinian Authority in connection with the plan's roll-out.

"If they screw up this opportunity -- which again, they have a perfect track record of missing opportunities -- if they screw this up, I think that they will have a very hard time looking the international community in the face, saying they're victims," he said Tuesday on CNN.

"This is a great deal for them. If they come to the table and negotiate, I think they can get something excellent."

IS ISRAEL REALLY DOING ENOUGH FOR PREVENTION OF CORONAVIRUS?

“It is clear the virus is highly transmittable, and this assumption is based on the rapid rate of spread of this infection in China,” Leshem told The Wall Street Journal. “When there is a public-health uncertainty, you always want to slightly overreact to make sure that you don’t miss a critical issue. Once you learn a little bit more about the risk and the effective steps, then you can scale back.”
For now, he told the Post, he does not recommend scaling back. He said if any Israelis are considering not taking the necessary precautions, they should be worried.

“Anybody planning a trip to Asia and the countries where the virus has broken out is taking a risk, if not a big one at this point,” Leshem said. “China is a huge country with over a billion people, and travel there is not advised.”

Currently, there are no known cases of coronavirus in Israel, though dozens of people have been evaluated. Leshem said in most cases, those evaluated were diagnosed with influenza or a similar respiratory virus. He said the flu hits around 30% of all children and 10% of adults, and “it is not surprising to see Israelis return from China, get sick and need to be tested. It is also not surprising that they will test negative.”

Leshem also said it is important to put the coronavirus into perspective. The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a public-health emergency of international concern last week, something that it has only done in five prior situations since 2005, when it gained the power to do so.
The first was in 2009 in response to the H1N1 swine flu. In 2014, it named the polio outbreak an emergency, followed by the Ebola and Zika viruses in 2016 and then Ebola again in 2019.
But when determining how acute the threat of the virus actually is, one has to compare its threat to other similar respiratory viruses, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

While the number of infectious cases in China surpassed the global total for SARS, Leshem said the infection killed 800 people of the 8,000 diagnosed, or 10% of all patients, after emerging in China in late 2002.

MERS, on the other hand, is considered very lethal but less transmissible. While less than 3,000 cases have been diagnosed, more than 850 people in two dozen countries died of the disease.

A United States senator is casting major doubt on the Chinese government’s official story on the 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak, instead hinting that a biosafety laboratory working with the deadliest pathogens in the world could be the true source. Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas dismantled a claim from China’s communist regime Thursday that pinned the coronavirus outbreak on a market selling dead and live animals.

“China claimed — for almost two months — that coronavirus had originated in a Wuhan seafood market,” Cotton wrote on Twitter. “That is not the case.”

In a video accompanying his post, Cotton explained that the Wuhan wet market (which Cotton incorrectly referred to as a seafood market) has been shown by experts to not be the source of the deadly contagion. Cotton referenced a Lancet study which showed that many of the first cases of the novel coronavirus, including patient zero, had no connection to the wet market — devastatingly undermining China’s claim.

"Ten days ago, China reported less than 300 had the virus. The country’s latest update now numbers the infected at over 11,000. An additional 15,000 in China are suspected of having the virus, but a reported lack of test kits prevents the government from giving an accurate number. When the number of infected was still low, China instituted a wide-reaching quarantine, sealing over 40 million inside cities.

The clear upside of this for Israel, the Jewish state, is that we will have about a quarter-million fewer Arabs in our Jewish state. If I may be blunt and totally politically incorrect; this is wonderful for a whole lot of obvious reasons.

Since Israel's founding as a "Jewish and democratic state," official Israel and it's Arab citizens have been dancing at a masquerade ball.

On the one hand, these Arabs were an integral part of the genocide minded enemies during and before the 1948 Independence war. They were however amongst the smarter and very lucky ones not to flee the area when the Arab armies invaded and told the Arabs to leave temporarily while they slaughter the Jews. They promised that they would then be able to return and occupy the properties of the slaughtered Jews. Simple and realistic at the time.

That was the plan. It did not work and thankfully the bulk of the Arabs did leave never to return. Those who did not, the smarter ones, enjoyed the paradise that was then built around them, called the Jewish state. They have been enjoying the fruits of the trees of this Paradise all the while cursing it and supporting those who would cut them down.

Last night there were two demonstrations against the idea of exchanging Israeli rule for "Palestinian" rule in these areas.

One was organized by "Peace Now", the Israeli extreme Left group. They do not want to part with their anti-Israel Arab comrades no matter the political considerations of the government. That would be clearly immoral and illegitimate

Expulsion of thousands of Jews from their homes by the government for political considerations is, however, very legitimate, moral and just wonderful.

There was another demonstration last night in the Israeli Arab town of Baka al Gharbia. They do not want to lose the Jewish Paradise that they hate so much in favor of living under their beloved "Palestine" flag and brutal Arab rule.

I get it. Paradise beats a corrupt hell hole; even a Paradise hated.

They claim that they are legitimate and natural citizens of Israel and it is unthinkable and immoral to take that from them.

If I were them, in order to win Jewish naive hearts and gain Jewish allies for the argument for their natural place in Israel, I would have raised the "beloved" Israeli flag and sing Hatikva at their demonstration. Instead, they raised the "Palestine" flag and chanted "Palestine from sea to sea" (in other words, destroy Israel). Did God harden their hearts or did he not have to...?

No matter how foolish the Arabs are in arguing their claim to remain in the Jewish Paradise they so clearly abhor, there will always be many useful Jewish idiots to cover up for them.

There is though a huge downside to ridding ourselves of a good number of the those who are a terrible burden on the backs and in the bowls of the Jewish state.

How can any Jew ever relinquish even an inch of our God-given beloved land?

I once knew a very very great rabbi, a lover of and warrior for his people and land who did have just the right formula.

During the discussion, concern was raised about the prospects and dangers of the plan, and its implications from the viewpoint of security, law, and settlement.

Elyakim Ha’ezni came out against the plan: "The plan is poison wrapped up with candy. And the Americans want us to swallow it all together: the dangerous Palestinian state - which is irreversible and has international implications - with Israeli sovereignty, which is reversible by future governments. Netanyahu must not be allowed to pass the plan he initiated.”

The Roman Spring in Chamat Tiverya, which hasn’t flowed in ten years, began flowing again on Wednesday morning thanks to the heavy rainfall this winter which has raised the Kinneret’s water level. The temperature of the flowing spring is 140 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the Gemara, these ancient springs were heated when they passed the entrance of Gehinnom.

The Kinneret’s water level, which is currently a meter higher than it was last year at the same time, exerted pressure on the aquifer – the underground layer of water-bearing rock and sediment – and caused the dormant spring within the ground to resume its natural flow.

The spring’s name is derived from the fact that it once served as a feeder to ancient Roman bathhouses, the ruins of which can still be seen at the site. Historical sources say that during ancient times, patients traveled to Tiverya from as far as Athens to take advantage of the healing properties of its natural hot springs.

The 17 natural springs are located on the grounds of the Chamat Tiverya National Park on the shore of the Kinneret.

Bennett stops imports of PA agricultural produce

Imports of PA agricultural products to stop as of Sunday at 6:00 a.m.

Looks like a Cold War is beginning between Israel and the so-called Palestinians.

Defense Minister Naftali Bennett on Friday instructed the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Gen. Kamil Abu Rukun, to immediately stop the imports of agricultural produce from the Palestinian Authority into Israel.

The minister's decision was made after months of repeated attempts by the defense establishment to resolve, using dialogue, a crisis which led to serious and ongoing damage to the cattle breeders’ sector in Israel and to the collapse of hundreds of farms in the industry.

In September, Palestinian Authority (PA) cabinet leader Mohammad Shtayyeh prohibited the import of Israeli cattle and other livestock to PA territories. As the PA has refused to end the boycott which restricted trade from Israeli farmers and significantly reduced the volume of imports, Bennett instructed COGAT to implement the ban on PA produce. The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), Maj. Gen. Kamil Abu Rukun, announced on Saturday night that Israel would halt the cement imports into the Gaza Strip and would cut 500 entry permits into Israel for Gaza merchants starting Sunday morning and until further notice.

The announcement comes in the wake of the continued rocket and incendiary balloon attacks from Gaza to the territory of the State of Israel.  ArutzSheva
