A rare historical video showing the landmarks of Al-Mustansiriya School in the heart of old Baghdad in 1917.
The Mustansiriya School is one of the oldest universities in the world. It was founded in 1233 AD (631 AH) in Baghdad by the Abbasid Caliph Al-Mustansir Billah.
It was a towering academic institution, teaching both religious and secular sciences, such as jurisprudence, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and literature. It is considered one of the first institutions to organize formal academic education. It housed a huge library, classrooms, and student housing, representing a true model of the scientific renaissance of the Abbasid era.
