Official Reports ..... Part II

 Additional details from MSN:

Last week, four soldiers were killed in a building collapse in Khan Yunis. New details that emerged revealed that after the troops had cleared the first floor and declared it secure, they began ascending to the second floor. Upon identifying a suspicious object on the upper level, the team commander decided to summon the Yahalom Unit (elite combat engineering) to further investigate before taking any additional action.

The commander pulled all the soldiers back, remained on the staircase with his radio operator to provide cover, and called in the Yahalom soldiers. Shortly thereafter, an explosive device detonated.

The type of explosive and the cause of detonation remain undetermined. A full investigation will be completed once the wounded soldiers have recovered, and the findings reported thus far are from a preliminary inquiry. A more in-depth investigation is underway, from which lessons will be drawn for ongoing combat operations, according to the IDF.

According to an initial IDF probe, a Palestinian gunman armed with an assault rifle opened fire on the paratroopers who were operating in Gaza City’s Shejaiya neighborhood.

The gunman ambushed the troops from an alley and managed to flee following the attack, which seriously wounded another reservist, according to the military.

In a separate incident in the nearby town of Jabalia on Tuesday evening, Hamas used a drone to drop an explosive or a grenade on troops, according to the military.

The explosion moderately wounded two soldiers of the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit and lightly injured a Shin Bet officer.

A day earlier, three troops were killed in Jabalia when they were hit by a roadside bomb.

The two wounded troops were listed in moderate condition.

According to an initial IDF probe, during operations in Shejaiya, troops of the Jerusalem Reserve Infantry Brigade and members of the police’s Yamas unit set up an ambush in a building.

Terror operatives arrived at the ambush site, and the Israeli forces opened fire on them at around 4:40 p.m. During the exchange of fire, the Yamas officer was killed.

Rescue forces were then dispatched to the scene to extract the troops at the ambush site. Fifteen minutes later, an army Humvee that tried to reach the area was hit by RPG fire, and one soldier was moderately wounded.

Nearly an hour later, several IDF tanks, part of the rescue forces, came under RPG fire from the operatives in Shejaiya. One of the RPGs killed Voloch and lightly wounded another soldier.

IDF Warr. Ofc. (Res.) Ofer Yung, 39, and Warr. Ofc. (Res.) Avraham Tzvi Tzvika Friedman, 43, were killed, and several were wounded in a Palestinian terror attack at an outpost near the village of Tayasir, north of the Jordan Valley on Tuesday.

The incident started around 6:00 a.m., though initial reviews suggest that the terrorist arrived in the area in the middle of the night, waiting for daybreak to attack.

When two of the soldiers were about to exit the outpost and opened the door to the outpost, the terrorist opened fire on both of them, killing one of them.

Next, the terrorist took up a position at the entrance and opened fire on the other nine soldiers inside the outpost.

The soldiers, though caught by surprise, started to return fire both from within the outpost as well as from the outpost watch tower.

During the gunfight, the IDF had a drone nearby ,providing some intelligence.

However, the terrorist had succeeded in getting to such close proximity to the IDF soldiers that the drone could not fire on him, lest it strike the soldiers as well.

Military officials have criticized the security conditions at the checkpoint and the troops' ability to protect themselves.

https://www.ynetnews.com/article/s1lnwhepjx

The troops were killed by the detonation of a powerful explosive device targeting a command vehicle. The unit was traveling along an administrative route in Beit Hanoun, where the brigade has been operating in recent weeks. Five additional soldiers were injured in the incident, including two in serious condition.

The route was supposed to be under full operational control, having been cleared at the start of the operation in the city, located west of Sderot. The unit traveled along the route in an unarmored Humvee, accompanied by other light vehicles in the convoy, including one carrying the deputy commander of the Nahal Brigade who was unharmed and led evacuation efforts.

During the incident, terrorists opened fire at the unit in the field, though it’s possible the fire was a result of friendly fire. The scene was declared a mass-casualty event.
