The Need For Responsible Civilians to Own a Firearm

Vice-president of the Jerusalem District Court, Judge Amnon Darel dismissed a request by former Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard to order the Ministry of National Security to issue Pollard a personal gun license, according to a report in Makor Rishon.

Pollard initially requested a gun license in April 2022, using his travels in Judea and Samaria for speaking at conferences as his eligibility criteria. He included a recommendation letter from Shomron Regional Council head Yossi Dagan for support. At the time, Pollard was turned down as he didn’t meet the basic eligibility criteria for getting a gun license. Personal gun licenses are difficult to get in Israel and one has to meet one of several criteria in order to receive one, but it is not considered a basic or constitutional right as it is in the US. After several entreaties, Pollard even turned to his lawyer Larry Dubb to turn to Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir to get him a license.

For former security personnel to get a gun license they need to have either reached a specific rank, served in a certain IDF or security units, or have undergone specific training.

In his decision, the warmly judge praised Pollard for his service, and stated that his decision in no way belittles Pollard’s service and contribution to the State of Israel or the personal price he paid, but that Pollard simply does not meet any of the strict eligibility requirements needed to get a gun license.
Besides service in a security unit, there are other criteria that can potentially be used for getting a gun license, such as residing in Judea and Samaria, becoming a licensed tour guide, or joining a volunteer rescue organization and being an active volunteer for at least a year. Pollard lives in Jerusalem.

MEANWHILE

Our enemies are NOT without their weapons ready to shoot and kill Jews. But there is no way to prevent the knife murderers.

Police Arrest 54 in Widespread Search for Illegal Weapons

Israel Police detained 54 suspects for questioning overnight Thursday, in an extensive operation to seize illegal weapons. The operation involved Police and Border Guard officers who carried out 82 searches.

Many weapons were captured, including ten M16 rifles, Kalashnikovs, Carlos, pistols, three tube charges, weapon parts, 16 fireworks beehives, combat equipment, and a large amount of ammunition. Security forces also seized a large variety of illegal drugs and tens of thousands of shekels in cash.

Police Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai praised the success of the nationwide operation and stressed that the police carry out similar activities year-round while investing technology and tremendous human efforts.
Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir said: “It’s a very important police operation to fight crime, following the operation on Monday. Kudos to the police commissioner, the commanders, and the hundreds of police officers. The message is that we must continue, with consistency and determination. Indeed, yesterday we delivered a huge, NIS 9 billion ($2.41 billion) budget to the ministry and its entities, to strengthen and fight crime.”

The government budget that was approved this week adds NIS 9 billion to the National Security Ministry, to finance the hiring of 4,850 new police officers, and a 20-40% raise across the board to rank and file police and prison service officers. The increase will also pay for establishing a national guard where citizens will enroll to guard and defend their own neighborhoods against criminals and terrorists.

And what do you call the stupid restrictions by those in charge not to allow yehudim who need to protect themselves to own a weapon? So just like there seems to be no end to the 'retzach' by our mortal enemies, there seems to be no end to the stupidity of those who disallow a Jew to
defend him/herself in their own Land. Of course, the insanity continues when they deny Pollard to own a weapon!
We have to pray harder for H's Rachamim! Afraid it's getting crazier with every passing day.
