My comments:

There's a deeper issue here than porous security. The people who let him through weren't necessarily lazy or stupid. They are programmed not to question authority. Being that the vest looks official, and is associated with authority, their learned reaction was to be deferential and give him an easy time. God forbid they should run afoul of authority. Everyone knows the rules don't apply to people in authority, and they could get fired davka for doing their jobs correctly.

Obviously, this also explains so much of what happened the last two years.

“Dark forces"

This is the election campaign slogan of the Left (or as most like to rename it,  Center"-Left. as "Left" is discredited after the Oslo and Gaza fiascos)).

The specter of “dark forces" is meant to scare Israelis from casting their vote for the "Right" in the upcoming elections.

Since the Left engineered irreversible damage to the Land of Israel, the next target is the People of Israel.

After all, the two are intertwined. This was clearly understood and stated by one of the architects of the Oslo accords, Ron Pundak. He said, "Oslo was all about securing the "Israelization" of the country from its Judaization ''

He and his colleagues were fighting the “dark forces '.

When Lapid moved into his office at the foreign ministry a year ago, he made sure to raise the LGTB flag in front of the ministry building - to chase away the darkness.

The assault on the Jewish family is necessary to chase away the darkness.

The enlightened ones fought the fight of light vs darkness when they insisted to bring chometz for the first time into hospitals on Pesach.

The forces of light did their best to destroy the holy Sabbath.

The forces of light prevented tree planting on Tu Bishvat in the Negev because only dark forces would ignore Arab resentment to Jewish national expression in Israel.

Something of historical implications has occurred in the last government led by Bennet Lapid. They have "crossed the Rubicon" and officially allied themselves with the anti-Israel, Arab sector. What has been anathema to just about all Israelis until only very recently, is now the official alternative of the "enlightened” in battling the "dark forces"

The forces of light can no longer form a government without the support and permission of the anti-Israel, Arab population. No longer do they pretend to represent a Jewish majority. It doesn't exist.

Only dark and racist forces would insist on a Jewish majority representation in the Jewish state.

How often in our history has light been called dark?

Remember the chapter of the spies about? They warned against the dark forces who would take us into our land

Korach also challenged the dark forces.

There was a section in the Communist party run by Jews called the "Yuvestka".

Its purpose was to root out and destroy all the forces of Jewish darkness in the Soviet Union.

Before they were murdered by Stalin, they managed to help murder countless "dark" Jews.

When Stalin died in 1953, the Left in Israel mourned the "Sun of the nations" and lowered the red flag to half-mast. The forces of light.

Nothing has changed.

Where in Navi Does it Say This?

There is a lot of cautionary info going around about the US currency no longer being the world dominant currency, and soon to become worthless, as in zero. So, ‘they’ are advising to buy gold and silver which is REAL money/currency which was once used to back a country’s national currency, and only increases in value. I’m sure ISRAEL has a good supply, as they are a source to purchase. But, if the below is true, “Why is it so?

Can anyone supply a source for this?

Pride and Prejudice

It was in the summer of 1986, the end of a year of searching for a hilltop in Judea Samaria while living in an absorption center in Jerusalem that had us unpacking our modest belongings into a prefab into what would become Itamar. Wearing an Israeli flag literally, we came to Israel with high dreams as the first intifada was about to come crashing down on us. It was hard to believe people in Israel did not want their heartland, let alone have a strong political platform for its dismantling before it was even assembled. 

The mindset created stress in “Israel proper” and antagonism towards to the ones zealous enough for Zion to move out to a bald hilltop and was real. “You are doomed” they chanted in various forms of the phrase while an Arab uprising was spurred on by this enthusiasm for suicide. We were eventually blamed for being the obstacles to peace and that diplomatic failures were “our fault”. But we knew had to relax, we knew Hashem was and is in control. 

We were subsequently humiliated by near and far, peoples bias being shaped by the media- the mouth piece of the sitrah ahchrah. Magnifying the few faults and minimizing the positive move to redeem G-d’s land that incidentally had been FALLOW AND EMPTY- not plowed in thousands of years: egos were built on our necks; people raised high for efforts for “peace”. When u come to Israel you will see their names on every bridge, road, hospital and school. 

The slaughter was astounding as thousands of people were murdered in terror attacks and called “sacrifices for peace”. No facts were presented accurately – in fact the truth was hidden and the EGO was crowned.  The emptiness of this twisted ideology reached a climax when thriving towns in the northern Samaria region and the Gaza Strip were demolished in 2005- eventually turned into missile launching bases for targeting Tel Aviv. The senselessness of it reached the psyche of most Israelis when those missiles were shot at the Azrieli Towers.

Thirty six years have passed since that DAY THAT WE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE TO TAKE PART IN A HISTORICAL EVENT LIKE NON OTHER. The heartland of Israel, despite these horrific setbacks began to spring to life and have blossomed. Side by side in humble head down conviction, we planted. We built, but they built (the PLO)- mostly in funding from your tax dollars and from the European Union. 

The governments of the world called for there to be a freeze on Jewish building yet poured millions into the Arab takeover of state land. It was and is evident that the corruption of our leaders created this monster. Here in Israel people do not need to be convinced about what kind of government we need. This last one that is dissolving, Baruch Hashem, had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and other terror organizations, all for PERSONAL PRIDE and POSITION OF POWER AND PRESTIGE. 

There is a majority of people here in Israel who feel despair at this state of deceit, in the LACK of personal safety, in realms of justice, economic stability and national durability. The dishonesty has clarified for all and we will see the result in the next ballot box. There are those in Israel today who Baruch Hashem are not torn from ideals. We are the majority.

Parshat Korach is an interesting benchmark. It comes to say, if you are going to stand on someone else’s neck to raise yourself- you are doomed. The last government was formed on Parshat Korach a year ago. It fell exactly a year later. I, as you know, strongly believe in Providence. Our culture has us buffing up and showing off, displaying our abilities. Parshat Korach comes to examine the idea of “giving oneself airs”, which we find in many cases is really just “putting on an act”. 

Without the proper balance of self- worth but humility the torah teaches us- it will not succeed. Don’t flaunt it, don’t brag, the best and holiest things are quietly done, wearing of course the flag.

EACH MAN UNDER HIS VINE AND FIG TREE

 

The month of Tammuz begins next week.

 

This is the season when sensitive souls among Am Yisroel begin to feel a palpable fear. Tisha B’Av is approaching, the day of destruction. “The harvest has passed; the summer has ended, but we were not saved.” (Yirmiyah 8:20)

 

How has Am Yisroel survived intact? How were we able to maintain ourselves as a Torah nation in the face of the endless catastrophes that engulfed us during the destruction of our First and Second Temples and the terrible Golus which followed?

 

Our very survival has to be one of the greatest miracles of all time.

 

Recently, my wife and I spoke with an experienced Wall Street analyst who provided many logical reasons why the stock market is ready for a rebound. We trust him and we like him. He is a fine, intelligent man.

 

But one factor was omitted.

 

If you look at the world through a Torah lens, you know that, at some point, the power of Esav/Edom, the all-encompassing culture which has ruled the Western World for two thousand years, will crumble. It is written. “Is there any doubt that on that day – the words of Hashem – I will cause the wise men of Edom to be lost … The House of Jacob will be a fire and the House of Yosef a flame and the House of Esav like straw ….” (Ovadiah 1:8ff)

 

Are these not words of prophesy? Is there any doubt that they will come to pass?

 

But why should we think that the era of Moshiach is close? Have there not been many terrible tekufos in our history which appeared to be the precursor of the Geulah?

 

My friends, I have a simple idea.

 

We know that the world will exist in its present form for six thousand years (Rosh Hashana 31a). And this is the year 5782! In the sweep of history we are very close. We also know that “a thousand years in Your eyes are like a day…” (Tehillim 90:4) so that the seven-millennia of history surely resemble a week.

 

Each week contains six days leading up to Shabbos. Is that not a beautiful and clear moshul for the course of history? The Gemora refers to the Seventh Millennium as a “day of destruction” (Rosh Hashanah 31a), but how do we know what “destruction” means? Perhaps it means the destruction of the rebellion against Hashem.

 

When Shabbos comes, the previous six days are wiped out of our minds in the glory of the Presence of Hashem. Why should this not be the prototype of the millennium at the end of history? Granted that we are not yet at the year six thousand, but – my friends – we are enjoined to add to Shabbos, to bring it in early.

 

If we go out to meet Shabbos, it will come to meet us. “To welcome Shabbos, come, let us go. For it is the source of all bracha ….” (Lecha Dodi)

 

All day erev Shabbos, we spend preparing. That is what makes Erev Shabbos so special, filled with that lichtige anticipation of the Great Day approaching. Why should the Sixth Millennium be any different? 

 

The world is filled with awful news and tragic events. All the prophetic scenarios detailed in Perek Cheilek of Maseches Sanhedrin seem to be unfolding in front of our eyes. Indeed, “Rabbi Yochanan said: If you see a generation upon which numerous troubles come like a river, expect [Moshiach].” (Sanhedrin 98a) Does this not describe our generation?

 

Look at the economic scenario. We are utterly dependent on products shipped from countries at the other end of the world, countries that hate us and have no interest in us except for the cold cash we pay for their shoddy goods. We are dependent on grain from Russia and the Ukraine, grain which is locked up in an insane war over which no one has control, even Putin. As a result, prices are going up and supplies are going down. We are helpless in the face of a civilization which is completely out of control. We are slaves to a supersensitive electronic infrastructure which can be completely wiped out instantaneously by an EMP bomb detonated at the right altitude by any nation with the right technology.

 

I want to contrast this scenario to a beautiful possuk in our Holy Torah, lehavdil.

 

The Novi tells us that, in the End of Days, “they will sit, each man under his vine and under his fig tree, and none will make them afraid, for the mouth of Hashem, Master of Legions, has spoken.” (Micah 4:4) Our fruit will come from our own garden and our own fig tree, in a Land made holy by its adherence to the Laws of the Master of the Universe.

 

This is reality! This is the future! This is the way we are supposed to live!

 

May we soon see the Dawn of the Age of Redemption!

Power, power, and more power. There are almost eight billion people on this planet, yet the amount of people who crave power, go after power, and actually have the means to acquire a lot of it, is very, very small. You don’t even need to talk conspiracy. You just need to go into Yahoo Finance and, check out the top shareholders of the biggest and most influential companies in the world. You will see the same names show up each time. There are very few who control the lives of very many.

The question is, what comes first? The lust for power, or the power for lust? Are certain people power-driven, and they spend their lives finding ways to accumulate it? Or, were they just like the rest of us until they found themselves with the means to accumulate increasingly greater amounts of power?

When it comes to Korach, the Gemora answers that question: 

“Riches kept by his owner to his hurt” (Koheles 5:12). 

Rebi Shimon ben Lakish said: “This was the wealth of Korach, as it says: ‘and all the sustenance that was at their feet’ (Devarim 11:6).” 

Rebi Elazar said: “This refers to a person’s money that stands him upon his feet.” (Pesachim 118a)

On the other hand, Kabbalah seems to indicate that Korach was born with his instinct for power:

This is the sod of, “And Korach took,” [with the verse] not explaining what he took. He took the evil of the Ruach of Kayin from the evil side. This is what our rabbis, z”l, alluded to with their words that he took a “bad acquisition” for himself. [Korach,] when he saw that he had an ibur of the Ruach from the evil side of Kayin said, “Until now I was from the evil side of Moshe and Hevel, and was subjugated by him. Now that I have the Ruach of Kayin, I am no longer subjugated by him.” He wanted to get out from under his authority. (Sha’ar HaPesukim, Korach)

So it seems that Korach was already a megalomaniac from the start. He may not have been destined for power, but he was destined to go after it. Believing he was meant to be powerful one day, he looked at everything in life that way, including his wealth. He may have worked with others, but only inasmuch as they worked for him to his end.

Therefore, the Mishnah states: 

Which is a dispute that is not for the sake of Heaven? The dispute of Korach and all his company. (Pirkei Avos 5:17)

Who did Korach fight against? It didn’t really matter, since it was as if the opposing side wasn’t there for Korach, who was more interested in winning than the truth.

AS MENTIONED IN the past, there are basically two types of soul, Kayin and Hevel. Kayin’s soul came from the side of Gevurah, a light that is best described as the opposite of Chesed. Chesed is warm and fuzzy, like Hevel and Ya’akov, and Gevurah is cold and exacting, like Kayin and Eisav. 

Gevurah doesn’t have to result in evil, as Yitzchak Avinu proved. On the contrary, some of the greatest tzaddikim in history have come from the side of Gevuros. But so have the greatest reshayim—evil people. Someone with a Gevurah-based soul has to work hard to be good. If they do, they can end up being greater than most others. 

Take Elisha ben Abuya, for example, otherwise known as Acher—the Other. According to the Gemora, he was one of Rebi Akiva’s colleagues, and one of four rabbis to join Rebi Akiva on his spiritual expedition into Pardes (Chagigah 14b). 

Only Rebi Akiva survived the trip. Ben Zoma lost his mind. Ben Azzai lost his life. And Elisha ben Abuya lost his righteousness, and became the quintessential heretic known as Acher. Only Rebi Akiva remained spiritually intact.

Based upon the results, one might ask, why did Rebi Akiva even consider Acher worthy of joining him on so serious a mission? The Leshem explains that it was specifically because of Acher’s gevurah-nature that he chose him for the mission. Had Acher succeeded, the Leshem concludes, his tikun to the world would have been the greatest of the four of them. 

Shimshon is another good example. He was from the tribe of Dan, which as the name indicates, was very connected to din—judgment, which is from the side of Gevuros. It was his gevuros that gave him the ability to save the Jewish people from the Philistines, and be their judge as well. 

But it was also Shimshon’s gevurah that led him to Delilah, the Philistine woman who betrayed him and was his undoing. As the Mishnah says, he tended to go after his eyes, a very gevurah thing to do. Then he used his gevuros one more time while bound up in the Philistine temple, to pull down its pillars and crash the structure on those celebrating his demise. 

Does this mean that Korach could have been a great man as well? Sort of. But he would have had to have worked very hard at it, because as the Arizal said, he didn’t just come from the side of Gevurah, but from the evil side of Kayin. That’s pretty evil. In fact, that is so bad that it is a wonder that Korach wasn’t worse, which may have been to his credit in the end.

If so, this may explain something in the parsha that seems somewhat out of place. After Moshe Rabbeinu confidently challenged Korach and his followers to an Incense showdown, he uncharacteristically turned to God to ask Him to not show Korach any favor. He even went so far as to “remind” God how altruistically he was: 

Moshe was very distressed, and he said to God, “Do not accept their offering. I have not taken a donkey from a single one of them, and I have not harmed a single one of them.” (Bamidbar 16:15)

Okay…but why was he bringing this up now? What was Moshe worried about? That God would choose Korach over him? If that was a concern, shouldn’t he have consulted with God first before making the challenge? If Moshe was that unsure about his decision or approach, shouldn’t he have at least verified it before going out on a limb? Seemingly.

ALMOST EVERY CULTURE has some saying about not judging another until you are in their shoes. You don’t have to be a Kabbalist to know that people are born with different natures, live very different lives, and have very different tests. Some people can’t stand the idea of biting their nails while others can’t keep their teeth off of them. Some of the differences might be a function of nurture, but they are definitely effected by nature. 

The Midrash says that for the first 15 years, Ya’akov and Eisav weren’t so different from each other. That is hard to believe only because of how different they became from that point onward. But it takes a while for the true nature of a person to emerge, and not just emerge but remain. Eisav’s inherent nature was known from an early age, but it probably did not yet show up in everything he did. 

But you see it all the time. At some stage teenagers gravitate to what makes them feel most comfortable about themselves, good or bad, and they develop the confidence to stick with it. If it is something they know is not so acceptable by their parents and teachers, they stop feeling the need to camouflage what they’re like. Being true to themselves and acting out in the open can seem like rebellion to everyone else but the people like them. 

At one point, Eisav started being a bully and became known for it. He stole out in the open, and became known for it. Acting dishonorably became his accepted way of life, so he became known for it. This is why his own mother decided to usurp his right to the blessings and give them to Ya’akov instead.

Moshe was the greatest prophet to have ever lived. When he killed the Egyptian back in Egypt, he knew that the Egyptian had part of Kayin’s unrectified soul in him. So he used a name of God to kill him, because that would rectify the soul spark. He probably even knew that he himself was the reincarnation of Hevel, and that his killing the Egyptian affected some kind of historic rectification for his original brother, Kayin. 

Besides, being Moshe Rabbeinu, he thought in terms of the big picture. He knew everything that happened was a function of Providence, was historic, and had national ramifications, even if he could not see what they were at the moment. Ironically, if anyone could see Korach for who he really was, it was Moshe Rabbeinu, and that may have concerned him. Not because of how bad Korach was, but how good he may have been in God’s eyes, respectively. Therefore, Moshe focused on his own merits to counterbalance those Korach may have had.

Ain Od Milvado, Part 6

SHEMA YISROEL HASHEM Elokeinu, Hashem Echad. This is the seed that you water and make grow into a glorious tree called Aitz HaChaim, the Tree of Life. Like Hillel the Elder used to say: “This is the whole Torah. The rest is commentary.”

The Shema is only six words and 25 letters. But in those six words and 25 letters are the deepest secrets of Creation. It can be understood on a simple level, and it can be understood on the deepest of levels, as I have written about in several books already: The Big Picture, The Light of Chanukah, The Equation of Life, etc. 

The Shema has another name: Yichud Hashem, the Unification of God. God, of course, is always unified in the sublimest of ways. The problem is the minds of men, with which Amalek plays to de-unify God (Rashi, Shemos 17:16). He misconstrues knowledge to make it conflict with belief in God, or causes events that make people question God’s existence or involvement in history. Hence the gematria of suffek—doubt—and Amalek are equal. 

The Shema is just a more complete way of saying Ain Od Milvado. Elokeinu refers to the hidden hand of God that eludes scientists and all those who can’t seem to see it, what people refer to as Nature. Hashem refers to the overt hand of God that no one is able to deny, like during the 10 plagues in Egypt and the splitting of the sea. The Shema says all of it is the same God.

But the gap between Nature and miracle is not huge. On the contrary, Nature is just consistent miracle, God willing the same thing to happen every day, or enough times to give us the impression that it is a built-in feature of Creation. Then we just get used to it and take it for granted, like a sunrise or sunset. We may acknowledge that they are beautiful, but we forget to acknowledge that they are also miraculous. 

The Shema is kind of like the hypnotist who snaps his fingers to wake up his subject. It tells us to use our spiritual x-ray vision to see past the opaque surface of the world around us, and see God inside of it. It reminds us that believing is seeing, and if you really believe Ain Od Milvado, you will see that it is Ain Od Milvado. You don’t have to only have faith that God runs the world. You can actually see it, and that makes life exhilarating.

Korach, The Holy Ark & Our Torah Scrolls

Korach, the central figure in this week’s parasha, was one of the four Levites chosen to hold the Holy Ark each time the encampment moved on to a different site. So, let’s discuss the holy ark and other essential elements in the Mishkan.

The basic structural design of the four Mishkanot (Tabernacles) and three Batei Mikdash (Temples) was similar: a Kodesh Kedoshim (inner sanctum, Holy of Holies which contained the Holy Ark); the Kodesh (an area directly in front of the Kodesh Kedoshim which contained the Menorah), the incense Mizbaiach (Altar), and the table for the Lechem Ha’panim (Show Bread), and at a distance away from the Kodesh Kedoshim the large Mizbaiach (Altar).

After the destruction of the Second Temple, it became customary to construct batei knesset (synagogues) according to the basic design of the Temple – the Aron HaKodesh housing the Torah scrolls parallels the Kodesh Kedoshim that housed the Holy Ark containing the broken pieces of the first Tablets, the second whole Tablets and – in the opinion of Rabbi Meir – also contained a small Torah scroll. The bet knesset has an area where the Torah is read and placed a distance from the ark of the Torah symbolizing the outer Altar which was at a distance from the Kodesh Kedoshim.

We revere our Torah scrolls and adorn the ark that houses them with esthetic and artistic accessories, because they are sanctified entities and the closest objects that we have today to the Bet Hamikdash and the Holy Ark.

 

60th Aliya Anniversary

On Thursday of this week (24 Sivan), my wife and I will B”H celebrate 60 years since our aliya to Eretz Yisrael. While discussing with our extended family the various possibilities of how to celebrate (including Shabbat in a hotel), my wife and I decided to donate the money to a meaningful charity in the name of every family member and with those yet to be born to be added to the list.

Were it feasible, I would erect an imposing bet knesset on the Temple Mount. However, even if the government would support such a plan, the next Bet Hamikdash will have already descended from heaven during the time needed to pass all the Israeli bureaucracy.

While pondering the situation, our youngest daughter Shulamit’s husband Uri came up with a suggestion that opened new vistas of possibilities.

A word about Uri. He is the head of the Oz Ve’Hadar (strength and glory) project which inspects, evaluates, and corrects every Torah scroll donated to the army and to the Ministry of Defense for their many needs.

He took us to the headquarters of the military rabbinate near the city of Ramle. It was an overwhelming experience. We were met by Major Ronen Aharon, commander of the unit that deals with technology in the military rabbinate.  What could possibly be technology in the rabbinate? We were taken into a very large room housing hundreds of Torah scrolls.  The scrolls are being prepared to be sent to the numerous military units from the northern border to the Sinai desert where we received the Torah.

There is a section of fully kosher and untouched scrolls (the officer did not reveal how many) that are distributed immediately to every reserve unit called up to active duty.  Moreover, the number of religious soldiers is increasing as the army expands; and in accordance with military law, every unit must receive a Torah scroll. This wing of the Rabbinate is a beehive of activity not found in any army in the world, except perhaps as part of the future army of the Mashiach.

Our tour continued on to the laboratory, which uses top-of-the-line technology to inspect every mezuzah and pair of tefillin purchased by or donated to the army. The soldiers in this unit are former yeshiva students, all in uniform and working day and night to keep up with the needs. Every mezuzah and the inner parchments of tefillin are photographed and enlarged to make the inspection quicker and more thorough. It is a marvel that an organization designated for war is aware that, in a Jewish army, the spiritual weapons of Torah and tefillin must also accompany the soldiers.

Each of the hundreds of Torah scrolls is numbered and its history recorded in a bullet-shaped metal case containing a chip that is imbedded in one of the wooden handles of the scroll. The chip permits the officer in charge to know where the Torah is at any given moment, even on the borders of Egypt and in a submarine.

Major Aharon informed us of the plan to turn this large room and its holy contents into the world’s largest Aron Kodesh, where anyone who enters will feel that he is indeed in an Aron Kodesh. It is now in the planning stages and will include artistic woodwork and a grand parochet (curtain or tapestry).

The renovation is expensive, but it doesn’t matter, because living in HaShem’s “sacred precinct” for 60 years has made us billionaires in mitzvot. This is the meaningful project that we decided to fund – this unique transformation from warehouse to Aron Kodesh.

This is not a request for contributions since this project is in the name of the immediate and extended Kahana family. It is a project that expresses the way we perceive and observe our Judaism – Torah study, mitzvot observance, together with the return of our nation to Eretz Yisrael and the mitzva of defending our people and the Holy Land.

We are indebted to Uri for bringing this project to our attention.

As I wrote above, Uri is the founder and head of the Oz Ve’Hadar (strength and glory) project which inspects, evaluates, and corrects Torah scrolls donated to the army and to the Ministry of Defense.

The army does not provide a budget for this service, which in some way is a good thing, because it provides an opportunity for individuals to get involved by supplying the military with Torah scrolls. The donor purchases the Torah scroll; and after it is cleared halachically, it is placed in a unit according to the discretion of the army and the rabbinate. The Torah scroll is presented to the unit in a beautiful and moving ceremony with the donor as guest of honor. These Torah scrolls have been placed in air force bases, submarine units and even in “sensitive” units where the donor (including Uri) is blindfolded until reaching the bet knesset. It was, indeed, an unforgettable experience.

UPDATE:  * Being that they are made up of alot of water, like humans 70%, they can absorb EMF radiation; which is not good and not the remedy, for EMFs. However, for your oxygen and breathing, they are great. So keep them away from the bad stuff.

My NOKIA (via Partner) phone started downloading seven messages. The intrusion was not wanted and it was not information I needed to know or wanted to receive.

At the same time, I had my “Multi-Field EMF Meter” on my desk because I was doing some computer output testing. All of a sudden it started LOUDLY BEEPING and filling that little area with red; as this indicates how much one should begin panicking. Well, it was in super panic mode!

On top of that, there’s the nearby pollution coming from electrical wiring with high values of dirty electricity, such as in a bedroom or a workplace, which can cause higher variable exposures that go up to 18 PP. Then, we have the semi-industrial exposures with pollution potencies between 38 and 55 PP; and, finally, the industrial exposure that can range between 75 and 150 PP.
