Shalom Pollack: The Haredim Were Right

The Haredim were right all along - about one very crucial point; the Zionists (secular) want to destroy the Torah and the Nation of Israel.

During my first visits and study year in Israel back in the early seventies, this claim was laughable and came from a ghetto mentality and a paranoia ingested by millennia of debasing Exile and persecution. Wake up! I would want to scream.

It is still an open question for me if their desire to destroy Judaism and the Jewish Nation was a conscious design and strategy or an evolutionary process. I understood that many Israelis were not connected to Jewish tradition in the classic sense of what I knew in Brooklyn. However, I admired them and gave them a lot of credit for living another aspect of being Jewish that I was not aware of in the Exile; the land, the people, the pride.

I recall visiting my secular family on a kibbutz or moshav or in town and feeling that I rediscovered an authentic Jewish branch of my family. I struggled with the "problems" of kosher and Shabbat there and wondered what is the essential story of Jewish history; their robust, proud rebuilding of the Jewish homeland, or the intricacies of halacha that I learned in Brooklyn.

The option of embracing both wasn't as obvious then. I was taken by the "new Jew".

To this day I don't know if these "new Jews”, like my family, were consciously waging an ideological war against Torah or an innocent evolution following an unavoidable historical path.

When I made Aliyah in 1977, I had not yet understood the magnitude of the momentous historic showdown within the Jewish people in the Jewish state. It became more apparent with time. The realization that there are many Israelis who are not just indifferent due to ignorance or laziness, to the Jewish content of the Jewish state but committed to destroying it, was not apparent

I could list the many examples and milestones along the road with this aim of destruction but that would require too many words for this article.

I am reminded of this historic fateful clash of civilizations in Israel today, March 2022, as the anti-Jewish Israelis seek yet another milestone in their quest.

Because they don't want a Jewish country but rather a "state of all its citizens”, they never miss an opportunity to raise the number of non-Jews in Israel. They continually remind us that the true essence of being Jewish and of the Jewish state is to include as many non-Jews in it as possible.

Once, they are African illegal infiltrators who must be allowed to stay. They are foreign workers and their children born here who overstay their work visas. They are Arabs from Gaza who just want to "reunite:” with Arab Israelis.

They are non-Jewish Russians who flood the country on the basis of the "Law of Return". This grants Israeli citizenship to one who has just one Jewish grandparent. After he arrives all his relatives with no Jewish background may follow. The vast majority that comes to Israel are not Jewish and the flow continues.

They insist that being a true Jewish state means allowing non-Jewish Ukrainian "refugees" into Israel. How many? They don’t offer a number.  In truth, the more the better.

The “new Jew” could not be more pleased.

The percentage of Jews to non-Jews in Israel is constantly declining, despite a high Jewish birth rate and (real) Jewish Aliyah.

The Talmud tells us that the period of redemption and the Messiah will be a very challenging time.  One of the rabbis even says that he would not want to be alive in that difficult period. Another says, despite the difficulties he would not want to miss it.

Well, we are here whether we like it or not. We should be aware of the magnitude of the time and understand the challenges.

Return approx. 6:00

Cost 280 shekels

This will be a day of Tanach, archeology, pioneer settlement, and sheer beauty of places off the beaten track.

This day will take you to places you will not visit on your own.

We travel south down the "Patriarchs and Matriarchs'' road from Yerushalayim towards the Hebron Hill country.

Passing places right out of the Bible

We will first visit the "Maan farm" and meet a  special young family raising grapes and creating very special wines from the blessed fruit of the Hebron hills. He will share his unique story with us and we can literally taste the fruit of the bible.

From there we will visit  Susiya. a  well excavated and preserved  Jewish town from the Talmudic period.  Archeological jewels include an exquisite synagogue mosaic floor, workshops, secret escape routes, ritual baths .. and much more.

This site attests to the dogged yet rich Jewish life that existed on the frontier of the desert during times of persecution and  the long exile in our land.

We continue south to the northern Negev desert to the beautiful Lahav forest, the largest one in the Negev.

We shall be the guests of the "Hashomer Hachadash '' who help protect small Jewish farms in the forest from the constant threat of Bedouins in the area. They will guide us through the beautiful forest and share with us the challenges and rewards of pioneering this frontier area.

Realistically speaking, it should have been obvious from the start that the goal of the 'zionists' were to destroy, c'v, Torah Judaism. It was Ben Gurion himself who knew from his dealings with the chareidim that he couldn't succeed then, so he made the status quo deal and allowed the chariedim to live the way they wanted, but he told his own chevra that in time, the chareidim will lose because the influence of the bolshevik rule will win out. The original zionists made deals with the nations and they were communists bolsheviks, so the wise rebbes and rabbanim of that time knew better than anyone else what the intentions of these Erev Rav were, but their ('zionists') time is coming to an end and soon, with H's Blessings, HE will send us our righteous Moshiach to end the evil reign of the 'zionists'.
