How many Ukrainian refugees should Israel admit and shelter?

The arguments heard today are familiar ones.

Some say that the Jewish state must never shut its doors to refugees in mortal danger. After all, we were in that very position not long ago and we must not forget how doors were slammed shut on our people in our hour of peril. How can we now do the same!

They might describe this as a  humanitarian position. There is no nobler path for the Jewish state.

Another view holds that waves of non-Jewish refugees should not be admitted into the Jewish state.

They remind us that Israel was established to ensure Jewish life and prosperity and be a shelter for Jews everywhere and not an international social service. These are concerned first and last about Jews and about guarding the Jewish content and nature of the Jewish state. They feel that this is truly being humanitarian.

Since this debate was first heard with the influx of African illegal immigrants, continuing with  Filipino workers who give birth against the conditions of their work visa, to the current debate about Ukrainian refugees the debate rages.

It should be remembered that when a refugee from persecution reaches a land where he is no longer persecuted or is in danger and then chooses to continue to yet another country he is no longer a refugee from danger.

They become economic migrants.  This is a whole different situation and status.

Israel has much experience with economic immigration, all illegal.

Here is where the true motive of the "humanists''(Leftists)  is revealed. It is not the physical safety of the non-Jewish illegals that interest them. It is rather the desire to bring as many non-Jews into Israel as possible, thus diluting and changing the Jewish nature of the country.

Their goal is a "state of all its citizens '.  It is why they have, and continue to support bringing hundreds of thousands of former Soviet non-Jewish citizens here, knowing they are not halachically Jewish.

It is why they are enthusiastic allies of the Reform movement in Israel though they never step into a Reform Temple or any other house of worship. They understand that just as Reform destroyed German Jewelry and is doing the same in America, they hope their success will be duplicated in Israel.

It is why they are amused by  Arab -Jewish intermarriage and unperturbed by many thousands of Jewish girls seduced into relationships with Muslims.

It is why the massive efforts of Christian missionaries to convert unsuspecting Jews do not concern them.

If the Left ("humanists'' ) had their way, the flood gates to Ukrainians and other non-Jews would be flung wide open until they achieved their goal; dismantling the Jewish state completely.
