The confirmation hearings for Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s nomination to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) was illuminating for several reasons.
First, it is clear just how unserious Democrats in the Senate are about reforming our broken healthcare system. Instead of talking to Kennedy about how HHS could improve healthcare and health outcomes for Americans, Senate Democrats insisted on a side-show worthy of Barnum and Bailey.
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) screeched about Kennedy’s “conficts of interest” before being reminded that Kennedy had already been cleared of any conflicts of interest as part of the vetting of all nominees. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) bizarrely ranted about whether Kennedy would denounce infant onesies being sold on the Children’s Health Defense website (we aren’t making this up), and Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) baselessly claimed that the over-diagnosing of anti-depressant drugs among teenagers has no impact whatsoever on the rise of violence in our schools.
Second, not only did the Democrats show just how unserious they are about improving healthcare in this country, but every single Democrat on the committee also showed just how committed they were to protecting the status quo and protecting big pharma’s financial interests.
Third, and maybe most enlightening, as Nicholas Hulscher over at Dr. McCullough’s substack points out, is that almost every single “conspiracy theory” the Democrats accused Kennedy of promoting is actually TRUE!
