If the Zionists Get A State
Warnings from a century ago, and two years ago, as US troops arrive in Israel
After a brief hiatus, we’re back to our regular schedule of Torah classes, and tonight was a barrage of Torah truth bombs from Rav Elchonon Wasserman. We began with a short essay on a Midrash from Bereishis, which demonstrates that when people approach the Torah with preconceived notions (in this case actual kefirah) and hunt for Torah sources they can cherry pick to support them, they will never lack for sources they can take out of context, misinterpret, or otherwise corrupt.
There are countless examples of this all around us; people whose lifestyles are completely against the Torah hijack the Torah for slogans and fig leaves. Even generally good people resort to this tactic to defend a certain aspect of their behavior or ideology that deserves a closer examination. The only solution is to value emes, truth, above all else, even if that means admitting error or going against social pressure.
In the end, as Rav Wasserman notes, those who want to get it wrong will get it wrong. That’s why people seriously argue that the Torah supports rainbow perversity, why people make contorted arguments in favor of false messiahs (see my two-part series on Distortions and Deceptions From Chabad Messianists here and here), and other such shenanigans.
That’s why you still have people taking poison shots, running into death traps, and celebrating their worst enemies as leaders and saviors. They have their Torah slogans, too…
The rest of the class was dedicated to an essay of Rav Wasserman on how we should view a potential “Jewish” state under the rulership of irreligious Zionists, from the perspective of Jewish law and facts on the ground. With the benefit of hindsight we can see that all of Rav Wasserman’s warnings came true like prophecy, and I can only hope that my small efforts to share them will awaken some people all these years later.
As always, I translated his essay word for word and added my comments along the way to connect Rav Wasserman’s teachings to current events.
The recording is embedded above and on Rumble here.
I wrote the following two years before the October 7 betrayal and ensuing decimation of many thousands of Jewish soldiers in a pretextual war:
From “Gog Umagog Past and Present”, July 7, 2021
In the times of the first Beis Hamikdash the Jews often relied on foreign armies to protect Israel. The prophets castigated them for this; relying on other nations for protection is turning away from Hashem. Not once was this portrayed in a favorable light, irrespective of the practical or political considerations, and not once did this turn out well. For Israel to turn to the nations of the world to protect it is the ultimate desecration of God’s name. This inevitably results in the very nation the Jews relied upon turning against them. Such was the case with Assyria.
Many Jews today continue to put their faith in the IDF, the Mossad, politicians, foreign aid, Jewish ingenuity, or any of the other laughable explanations for our survival. Hashem must teach them the hard way.
The IDF was on the brink many times in Israel’s short history, and oftentimes cannot get out of its own way, yet continues to receive the credit for Israel’s victories. Furthermore, the IDF is run in open defiance of the Torah in many respects. It prioritizes social engineering over military considerations, incorporating women into stations where they do not belong and promoting perversity. Religious soldiers are persecuted, particularly religious girls who want nothing to do with the army. The lives of Jewish soldiers and civilians are sacrificed on the altar of “world opinion” as a matter of policy. Kol Hakavod Latzahal indeed.
I expect the IDF to experience an epic setback — perhaps in an attack against Iran — that will shatter this heretical confidence in our own might and force a mass teshuva movement.
We have seen many times how fragile foreign aid is, the prices we are forced to pay in order to maintain “good relations” with our patrons, the human life that must be sacrificed “for the greater good”. Yet so many Jews, even “religious” Jews, insist that without this foreign aid Israel could not survive. This angers God, the true source of all “aid”, who would surely help us in a better, more dignified way if only we allowed Him to do so. We can expect all our patrons to turn openly against us and force us to turn to our only true patron – our Father in Heaven – and to depend on Him only. The Jewish nation must stand alone.
End of quote.
The IDF experienced an epic setback on October 7, 2023 and was decimated in little Gaza over the following two years, before “pressuring” Hamas to make a historically lopsided “deal”, then declared total victory. Of course this was all an inside job and treason, but from the standpoint of regular people putting their hope and trust in the IDF to protect them, this is indeed an epic setback.
Unfortunately, this did not shatter the heretical confidence in our own might and force a mass teshuva movement. What will it take? Do we really want to find out?
You can read the rest of the article here.
We still need to learn Rav Wasserman’s lessons from nearly a century ago. We can’t afford a century more of ignoring the Torah and the reality before us.
We can’t afford more “victories” like the one our Hebrew-speaking enemies are proclaiming now…
A little more food for thought:
US troops have been spotted arriving at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
Reports suggest they may be joining President Trump’s newly established “coordination center” — a joint operation set up to oversee and enforce the Gaza ceasefire.

But I thought we won a decisive and complete victory. So why do we need (more) US troops here? Why do we need any at all?
Why did nearly 20,000 Jewish soldiers have to get maimed and killed first?
Were they doing the dirty work and paying the price to pave the way for foreign occupation?
Is it inconceivable that the same snakes who let the south be conquered by Toyota pickup trucks (for which no heads have rolled), while making sure the IDF stood down, and skeleton crews in bases were slaughtered in their pajamas…is it inconceivable that these same snakes would oversee the decimation of a particular demographic of Jewish soldiers in death traps a child would know to avoid, while wrecking the psyches, families, and finances of those who weren’t physically destroyed, so that there would be no one left to resist our “salvation”?
How did it work out during Bayis Sheni when they brought in the Romans?
Food for thought.
