Rabbi Weissman: Are We Punished for......

Are We Punished for the Sins of the Erev Rav?

The extent and limits of mutual responsibility

In this week’s Torah class we explored the concept of arvus, that we are responsible for one another. As Chazal explain, we are literally guarantors. You won’t believe how many covenants of mutual responsibility we accepted upon ourselves, which goes a long way to explaining why the righteous often suffer.

Here are some of the many questions we addressed in the class, with a wealth of Torah sources:

  • Are we responsible for what people do in the privacy of their homes?
  • What if we are unable to prevent people from sinning?
  • How is it fair that someone unrelated to Achan’s sin died in battle because of it?
  • How does it work that righteous people can bear the sins of the entire nation?
  • Isn’t that eerily similar to what those other guys believe about their false savior?
  • Are we responsible for the sins of all the Bibis, Shmibis, and Erev Rav out there?

As a free bonus, we saw a wide variety of reasons why converts are problematic for the Jewish people.

The Torah class is based on a Dvar Torah from Sefer Keser Chananya, which you can purchase directly from me for only 20 shekels (hardcover, with a haskama from Rav Moshe Tendler, zt”l).

The class is embedded above and on Rumble here. It really explains a lot, and I hope you will watch and share it.

I have no idea which conspiracy theory regarding Charlie Kirk is true, and neither do you, but the media and the people they work for are really, really pushing this story. Conveniently, no one's talking about Trump and Epstein anymore.

Take a quick glance at the following two pictures:

Which is a luxury apartment complex and which is a mega prison?

Hard to tell, except maybe for the small balconies.

Here’s some “sponsored content” from Arutz Sheva. Unlike all the other sponsored content on the site, this is officially an advertisement. It’s hard to tell the difference in the quality and style of the “reporting".

Who wants to live in a monstrous luxury tower of Bavel?

Personally, the mega prison (picture #1) looks much more attractive than the “redefinition of modern city living”, at least from the outside. This is a far cry from “each man will sit under his vine and his fig tree”; definitely not what Hashem intended.

Amalek and the Erev Rav force us to build only up, not out, cramming us into vertical ghettos where we can be most easily confined, surveilled, controlled, and exploited, until they no longer have use for us. We’re paying millions for the privilege of being concentrated and enslaved in ugly megastructures.

Redefining modern city living indeed.

It’s interesting how the Arab villages in Israel build out, while the Jews build up. The Jews have been seduced to believe that living in a huge ugly dormitory with a pool, a gym, and a small shared garden is “luxury living”.

They make enslavement and destruction sound so wonderful, don’t they?

I was by a bus stop at a busy intersection last night when there was a siren, warning about another "Yemenite missile". Two people did an obedience ritual, and a whole lot of people completely ignored it.

I didn't realize my Torah classes were that popular. They will have to think of something new.

Speaking of which, my deathcare provider texted me that they are here for me, and they recommend going early to get a flu vaccine to protect my health and the health of my loved ones. They helpfully added that the vaccine is available from the age of 6 months.

They're all evil, and I can't wait for them to go down, but you have to admire their persistence. They just don't give up.

We can learn from them...
