Prophetic Teachings of Rav Elchonon Wasserman #1
Essential Torah for our times
We began our series on the prophetic teaching of Rav Elchonon Wasserman with the first few pages of his lengthy essay on the footsteps of Moshiach. Among the many topics we covered:
- The rapid onslaught of major world events, how it literally drives people crazy, and the importance of turning to the Torah for insight and perspective.
- The terrifying nature of this unique period in history.
- An insight from the Vilna Gaon regarding the birth pangs of Moshiach, with strong parallels to 1939 (when this essay was written) and present times.
- A clear message from Shiras Ha'azinu, at the end of the Torah, that Hashem will bring the redemption when it is hopeless. But when is it hopeless?
- Rampant idolatry before the redemption, including among “frum” Jews, and the essential definition of the term "avoda zara". Strong commentary here.
The recording is also available on Rumble here.
The classes will continue on Mondays and Thursdays at 9:05 PM Israel time. The link to join the live classes is https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/sj2ws45FThCroxGDQYwB6w#/registration.
Also, don’t miss this week’s regular Torah class on Moshe’s last moments and final words, which, Baruch Hashem, has received very nice feedback, but much less attention than the rest of yesterday’s post. I wish people had as much interest in the Torah as they have in the more journalistic material. It might not seem as juicy on the surface, but that’s where the real good stuff is.
That Torah class is available here.
If you find these Torah teachings insightful and important, please don’t keep them to yourself.
