What I read on the Parsha of Va’etchanan about what Moshe said (begged):
“’My Lord, Hashem Elokim, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand, for what power is there on heaven or on the earth that can perform according to Your deeds and according to Your mighty acts? Let me now cross and see the good Land that is on the other side of the Jordan, the good mountain and the Lebanon’.”
“I pleaded with the Lord at that time, saying….Let me, I pray, cross over and see the good land on the other side of the Jordan, that good hill country and the Lebanon” (Deut. 3:23–25)
Is referring to Lebanon, which is definitely part of Eretz Yisrael on the macro map. It was Yehoshua (Joshua) that was to conquer this area and bequeath it to the Tribe of Asher (the Asherites). This portion was given by Hashem, all the way up thru the Bekaa Valley and the Great River, the river Euphrates: “A Land with streams and springs and fountains issuing from Plain and hill” – all mundane of water under the Afga Bridge in Lebanon” [Biblical Geography and its Meaning, Yoel Elitzur, Places in the Parasha pp 569–577] See also Joshua 13.
Despite all the wars and fighting in Lebanon, it was understood that the Nation and its Leaders was not familiar with the Tanakh, Further on [ibid. p 575 there it explains how what they were fighting for was in actuality what was allotted to the Asherites (Joshua 19:24-28)]
So, it is the (massive) ignorance of Torah and Neviim of the Nation of Israel incl the IDF and its strategists that led to world condemnation of the wars fought on our rightful Land of Lebanon, and the takeover of enemy terrorists.
Its a pattern in our history, the same that is happening today.
