IDF Arrests Another Yeshiva Student, Mass Protest Of Roshei Yeshivos Called For Thursday
JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The IDF military police is continuing its campaign to arrest random yeshiva students, irrespective of whether they are studying full time in yeshiva.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, military police arrived at the home of a 23-year-old yeshiva student living in the city of Bat Yam and arrested him after he was defined as a “deserter”.
[Query: just how do they grab them in their home? Do they have an "Entry/Arrest Permit"? Do they wait outside until he comes home or goes out? Once the door is open, do they run inside? Is any of this legal or illegal??]
Initial reports indicate that the young man is a student at a yeshiva in Kiryat Malachi, and according to sources familiar with the matter:”He studies in one of the top charedi yeshivas and has submitted legal deferments over the years.”
Currently, the student is receiving legal advice from a lawyer representing the organization ‘Ezram U’Meginam’, which provides support for yeshiva students in legal battles related to military service.
As previously reported by Kikar HaShabbat, and in accordance with the decision of senior charedi rabbis, on Thursday, in the midst of “bein hazmanim”, hundreds of roshe yeshiva from across communities and sectors are expected to gather outside Military Prison 10 for a mass protest and outcry against the arrest of yeshiva students and what they describe as the ongoing persecution of Torah scholars in Israel.
