There are two issues here, more pervasive surveillance and shoplifting. The issue of privacy and surveillance is in flux, as there is proposed legislation to allow customers to opt out or demand deletion of personal data. (We can assume that regulations would be different for businesses vs. gov't agencies.)
The more immediate concern is that this a symptom of increased crime, which inevitably means increased prices and a decrease in quality of life.
Minor quibble: Ave I & MacDonald is not Boro Park. (But maybe nobody notices!)
This was entered on the BoroPark24 site, and it sits between BP and Flatbush. If one lives in BP they consider it within the area and do shopping there. I guess you don't live there, bc I did and it is included within BP shopping area. Thanks anyway.
