Tel Lachish: Discovering King Rehoboam’s fortification and more at Judah’s southern gateway city

The Bible states that the first king of Judah to fortify Tel Lachish, Judah’s second city, was King David’s grandson, Rehoboam. However, over the course of a century of excavation at the site, no city wall from Rehoboam’s time was uncovered.

Over a decade ago, Prof. Yosef Garfinkel from Hebrew University and his team began excavations at the site to see if the long lost 10th-century b.c.e. city could be found. On today’s program, shot on location in southern Israel, host Brent Nagtegaal talks with Professor Garfinkel about what their team has discovered after 10 seasons of excavation.
