Now that it is peaceful in the north, we will be among the first to tour a region that has not seen visitors for too long.
We will visit the "Yigal Allon Museum" of the Galilee on kibbutz Ginosar along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. This museum houses two unique items. One: the world's oldest Jewish fishing boat. Found by Jewish fishermen in 1986 when the water level dropped due to a drought. The boat was gently removed from the mud and is now on display. It is believed to have been sunk during the battle against the Romans during the Great Revolt of 70 CE.
Two: The famous "Hukuk mosaic" floor. It was discovered in 2012. The synagogue mosaic floor, which dates from the fifth century CE (Amoraim period) is considered the finest such floor discovered to date. Its workmanship is of the highest quality, and the biblical scenes are the most varied of any similar mosaic. It is on display for a limited time in the "museum of the Galilee" in kibbutz Ginosar, near the site of its discovery in ancient Hukuk village.
After this visit, we will proceed to the Upper Galilee, where we will have a guided tour and see a film in the "Fortress of the 28" Twenty-eight Jewish fighters fell in battle while launching repeated assaults against this British fort, gifted by them to the Arabs in 1948.Their heroic efforts secured our northern border in the War of Independence.
We will have lunch in slowly recovering Kiryat Shmona, where we can patronize the returnees to their homes. You may bring your own food if you wish.
Finally, we will meet with veteran farmer and Galilee leader Mr. Yariv Ben Ami in his home in kibbutz Hagoshrim. He has been at the forefront of the battle against widespread "Arab protection rackets" that have had a stranglehold on Jewish agriculture and life in the Galilee for years. We will learn about the ongoing struggle from the leader who was first to stand up and say NO!.
