Knesset advances bill criminalizing interference with Orthodox religious practices in public
Coalition bill also requires civil court judges to pass test on Jewish law, though that clause expected to be nixed; MKs also vote for legislation stripping chief justice of authority to staff judicial panels. The Knesset voted 49-35 on Wednesday afternoon to advance a controversial bill on the “Realization of Jewish Identity in the Public Sphere” that aims to ensure the ability of Israelis to “express their national and religious identity,” prompting critics to accuse the government of engaging in (religious) SECULAR (erev rav) coercion (persecution)
Violent clashes broke out early Thursday afternoon near Bar Ilan Street in Jerusalem between hundreds of extremists and police forces. The police used crowd-dispersal measures, including stun grenades and tear gas, to restore order amid reports that 10 police officers were lightly injured.

It’s amazing, the state changes the rules overnight, makes no accommodations whatsoever, criminalizes and sanctions all of them within a few months, and then people get upset when the people react and protest for their religious rights. All under the Attorney General’s guidance and nothing to do with the prime minister. How do you not see a problem in that? Any other law that gets changed there’s a few years grace period, compromise on how many Year One and your two, some safeguards in place, new units that will open up under the guide of rabbinical supervision that will be tested and reviewed before implementation, Etc. None of that happened here so enjoy your protests, that’s the only thing that might help when the country can’t handle it anymore
