A Kelvin wave 2026 is a massive but slow-moving pulse of warm water. It spans thousands of miles and travels beneath the ocean surface, carrying warm water from the western Pacific toward the Americas.

Scientists describe it as planetary in scale.

How does the Kelvin wave form?

During a strong El Niño, trade winds that normally blow from South America toward Asia weaken or reverse. Without those winds holding it in place, warm water piled up in the western Pacific surges eastward along the equator.

When it reaches the coast of South America, it can’t continue east, so it splits and travels north and south the coastline as a coastally trapped Kelvin wave 2026.

Why should California prepare?

Kelvin wave 2026 can increase sea levels off the California coast by 6-12 inches for weeks, or even months. Although this wave alone would not cause floods, it increases the base level from which the high tides, storm surges, and big waves will develop. In addition, considering king tides are expected to come in Thanksgiving and Christmas time, as well as the fact that winter storms triggered by El Niño are on the horizon, the likelihood of coastal flooding, erosion and bluff failures becomes very high.

In this connection, the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, has already declared a state of emergency. The fastest today is five thousand [km/h]. And there's the MiG... that's three... Now we're bringing out a plane of six thousand. Here there's a space plane, only it's so expensive. Like from New York to California, it arrived within a quarter of an hour, and fell into the sea, because landing it costs more than flying it. So these are things we need to know: what is happening, and what to pray for."
