I disagree with the characterization that we have any control over how we navigate through the predicted "upheaval." I think it is ALL Hashem. The Chesed l'Avraham says in the year 5760, all the waters of the deep would rise up to flood the world and the Land of Israel would be like the Ark of Noach. So, Noach had no control whatsoever of how the Ark stayed afloat or in which direction it traveled. I also think that has been the case since the closing hours of 5760 when the Second Intifada (Al Aqsa Intifada) broke out. From Al Aqsa Intifada to Al Aqsa Flood - this has been the third war of GoguMagog - the War for Jerusalem which has also very much been an ideological war between the Torah Jews and the Erev Rav much like the one between the Chashmonayim and the Mityavanim. Didn't it also last for 25 years?
Well, whatever is planned by Hashem will happen, but we do always have CHOICE! It’s not control, it’s choosing how to act/react. It’s built in to our world. That’s the “free will”. About the mighty Chashmonayim, I was amazed to learn that their ‘waring’ did last so long! Hashem allowed it until a certain time. Then it was over. Same here, we Jews/Israelis need to get to that pivotal place where we tip the scales in our favor that changes the outcome. All the “returning of the myriad teenagers to observing Shabbos is amazing. I recently learned about that. Some of their parents were shocked that their children decided such. And some parents of some hostages also took on many Mitzvot. This is like a spiritual tidal wave. Surely this helps bring us closer to Mashiach and the Geula. We as a nation still need to do more, however. BTW It’s nice we can share perspectives.
