Rabbi Green: PURE GOLD

 Shana tova.

This year is 5787, תשפ”ז in Hebrew.

This is acrostic for the phrase תהא זו שנת פדותנו, may this be the year of our redemption.

It also spells תהא שנת פז, may it be a year of paz, pure gold.

The value of PaZ, 87, is the number of words in the Baruch She’amar blessing that commences the Verses of Praise (Pesukei d’Zimra in Hebrew, note the PZ) we recite each morning. Our sages found a hint to this in Song of Songs 5:11 “His head is as fine gold ראשו כתם פז.”

The 87 words begin: “Blessed is He Who spoke and the world came into being...” The prayer expresses the wonder and awe of creation, and how it’s continually being recreated by Divine word.

According to tradition, the Men of the Great Assembly instituted this prayer after finding it inscribed on a letter that fell from heaven.

According to halacha, it should be chanted with sweet melody while standing (Shulchan Aruch Harav Orach Chaim 51:2)

On this new year ‘87, let’s start singing all 87 golden words of Baruch Sheamar with a new melody, inspired by wonder and awe from perceiving G-d within His wondrous creation.

That's the pure gold we should ALL be investing in.
