(CNN)While floodwaters in the northern California city of San Jose were receding Wednesday, the mayor said they were contaminated and residents of 14,000 households ordered to evacuate should not yet return home. The residences under the mandatory evacuation are near a creek that appears to have been breached, Mayor Sam Liccardo said. Tens of thousands of more homes are under voluntary evacuation notifications. One resident slept in his car instead of going to a shelter.

"We woke up at 1:30 in the morning, cops knocked on the door of our apartment. My wife got the dog out of there and I parked in the parking lot. Yeah, I slept in the car," Santos Aguilar told CNN affiliate KGO.



"This is not about rain, this is about Anderson Dam," Liccardo said. "Obviously, the rain contributed to the overflowing of Anderson Dam but what we have is truly unique. We have evacuation areas that exceeded the 100-year flood zone. This is not a flood we would typically anticipate. What happened at Anderson Dam is the cause."

Anderson Dam, just southeast of the city, is at 103% of capacity and the water level at the reservoir is still 2.2 feet above the top of a spillway where water flows out of the reservoir. Read more: SanJoseFlood


An “atmospheric river” continued to batter parts of Northern California on Tuesday, causing widespread flooding. The heavy rains prompted the National Weather Service to warn of a dam failure outside Carson City, Nevada, saying that it was “not a drill” and that residents should “move to higher ground now.”

But less than 90 minutes after issuing the alert, the agency changed its report to say the retention basin in Dayton, Nev., had not failed. Instead, it was full and overflowing into drainage areas, the weather service said. However, Lyon County, Nev., emergency officials warned that the situation could change in the next few hours.

What are atmospheric rivers?

Atmospheric rivers are relatively long, narrow regions in the atmosphere – like rivers in the sky – that transport most of the water vapor outside of the tropics. These columns of vapor move with the weather, carrying an amount of water vapor roughly equivalent to the average flow of water at the mouth of the Mississippi River. When the atmospheric rivers make landfall, they often release this water vapor in the form of rain or snow.

Although atmospheric rivers come in many shapes and sizes, those that contain the largest amounts of water vapor and the strongest winds can create extreme rainfall and floods, often by stalling over watersheds vulnerable to flooding. These events can disrupt travel, induce mudslides and cause catastrophic damage to life and property. A well-known example is the "Pineapple Express," a strong atmospheric river that is capable of bringing moisture from the tropics near Hawaii over to the U.S. West Coast.

NOAA research (e.g., NOAA Hydrometeorological Testbed and CalWater) uses satellite, radar, aircraft and other observations, as well as major numerical weather model improvements, to better understand atmospheric rivers and their importance to both weather and climate.

Scientific research yields important data that helps NOAA's National Weather Service forecasters issue warnings for potential heavy rain and flooding in areas prone to the impacts of atmospheric rivers as many as five to seven days in advance.

[Who else has such a brave Mayor who defends the integrity of Israel’s Capital, Jerusalem, In the Eye of the Storm (Yerushalayim)]

While the Obama administration harmed its ally by strengthening its enemies, if President Donald Trump holds to his promises perhaps things will change going forward. But there is already talk of backpedaling.

Days after United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 condemned Israeli settlements in the “occupied Palestinian territory” of Judea, Samaria and east Jerusalem as a “flagrant violation under international law,” JERUSALEM MAYOR NIR BARKAT issued a strong rebuke: the mayor and his planning-committee director announced the committee’s intent to approve construction of 618 previously planned housing units in east Jerusalem – a first step toward an additional 5,600 units in the city. “I’m not ever going to stop building. No construction will be stopped by me as mayor,” he said.

Jerusalem was the Jewish capital 

during that time (3,300 years), 

NEVER a capital of any Arab or Islamic entity.

Barkat is “politically correct” in the most positive sense of the phrase. He is also legally and historically correct. In property disputes over land ownership, lawyers search property records for deeds, liens and related issues to identify the real legal owner(s). They also use mandatory “discovery” to demand that the opposing party provide all relevant documents, inspections and depositions that pertain to the dispute. In the courtroom, the presiding judge determines whether the proceedings and evidence of both sides are represented in a fair and balanced way.

The US abstention on Resolution 2334 and secretary of state John Kerry’s specious rhetoric laying out his two-state agenda were mockeries of the these basic processes and premises of justice. As further evidence of the resolution’s shaky legal grounds, it conflicts with tenets of international law in the Palestine Mandate, UNSC Resolution 242, the Oslo Accords and Camp David Summit.

• The Bible clearly defines ancient boundary lines and one of the oldest title deeds in the world is recorded in the Tanach, where King David purchased the future site of the Jewish Temple from Araunah the Jebusite for 600 gold shekels. David’s son, King Solomon, built the First Temple on that site. There’s ample additional biblical, archeological, religious and historical evidence of Israel’s abiding connection to Jerusalem that pre-dates Palestinian claims. The Jews governed Israel for a thousand years, and lived there continuously for the past 3,300 years. According to Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs researcher Nadav Shragai, Jerusalem was the Jewish capital during that time, never a capital of any Arab or Islamic entity.

Despite Israel and the Jewish people’s deep and abiding historical, cultural and religious connection to Jerusalem, the Palestinians, who began to define themselves as a people only about 100 years ago, insist they will never sign a peace deal that does not include Israel’s surrender of east Jerusalem, including the Old City and the Temple Mount. (Under international law, this area is disputed, not “occupied.”) Meanwhile, the Palestinians continue to deny Israel’s right to exist and incite violence and terrorism against her. As Dr. Joel Fishman wrote, “It is simply not possible to build [a state] on a foundation of myth and ignorance.”
Mayor Barkat and many others rightly identified the previous administration in Washington, DC, as being anti-Israel long before Resolution 2334 reared its ugly head. Over the past eight years the US has pressured Israel to halt “illegal” Jewish construction in eastern Jerusalem. In recent years Barkat slammed the Obama administration for criticizing Israel’s plans to expand the suburb of Ma’aleh Adumim – an effort to provide affordable housing in the over-crowded capital. “I don’t know of any city in the world whose regulator is the US president,” the mayor remarked. Efrat mayor and pro-settler leader Oded Revivi added, “Israeli building policies are set in Jerusalem, not New York.”

Based on the latest news reports, it now appears that the Trump administration is starting to waffle on the topic of settlements. Let’s hope these news reports are mistaken, as they so often have been.

What country doesn’t have the right to its unified capital, and to develop and build it? I pray the Trump administration will focus its efforts at the UN against terrorism and stand strong on Israel’s side against any and all attempts to delegitimize the only democracy in the Middle East.

At night, the “settlement” of Elkana has the breath of an invisible city. Come morning, Jewish children are everywhere. Trees have been planted by the thousands, as if the earth, once rough and sterile, had been forced to turn green and fruitful. Elkana was my base for a week to discover the “terra incognita” of Israel, Judea and Samaria, the territories which the whole world would like to take away from the Jewish State.

The “settlers” are the hawks who do not want to lower their wings, those about whom the United Nations passes resolutions, those whom the labels of Europe and Obama’s admonitions have tried to drive away from their homes. In June, they will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their presence in Judea and Samaria.

Everybody speak of Israel, few to Israel, fewer still to the “settlers”. Their towns look like fortified American suburbs, as if these pieces of Western civilization had fallen victim to some absurd storm in the middle of nowhere.

These Jewish towns are a kind of silent and tidy Switzerland.

Elkana dominates the view of Petach Tikva (literally, the beginning of hope) which is located inside the Green Line and is the first purposely established village of Jews who came to Palestine in 1878, not to die or be buried in the “land of the fathers”, but to fight and live. You turn the corner and you see the “gederot”, the barbed wire fence which literally surrounds the community. Out of the gate it is really another world.

Outside the security fence, you find the most idealistic “settlers”. In the "territories", moving towards the east, towards Jordan, is a way to demonstrate your firmness on the subject. We talk about 100,000 Israelis living outside the thousand kilometers of barriers, walls and fence that seal the other par of the Jewish State. The geography of fear has been generous with Israel: from the northern border with Lebanon to the last centimeter in the south, the lives of Israelis every day are tied to insecurity. In the 'territories," you are always close to the border, close enough to have it sneaking into homes, cars, dreams and the nightmares of those who live there.

The “West Bank”, as the world calls it, is the most contested land in the world, it covers 5,600 square kilometers, like Liguria, one of the smallest Italian regions. The Israelis now control 40 percent of this region, according to the Oslo accords. The Palestinian Arabs use these roads, there are no roadblocks and almost no checkpoints, while the Jews cannot enter the Palestinian villages. They would be lynched, as were two reservists who strayed into Ramallah. Is this the “apartheid” the world talks about daily? No? Why not?

EPA SCIENTIST: FLUORIDE LOWERS IQ OF CHILDREN

Former senior EPA scientist confirms that fluoride lowers the IQ of children

The United States started adding fluoride to its drinking water soon after the end of the Second World War, and for over 70 years, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confidently asserted that this practice is necessary to prevent tooth decay. Interestingly, the U.S. is one of very few countries that still maintains that adding fluoride in this way prevents tooth decay. CDCNews

The CDC maintains that several studies have demonstrated that the fluoride which naturally occurs in groundwater is essentially the same as the sodium fluoride that is added to our drinking water. The CDC’s website claims: “The metabolism of fluoride does not differ depending on the chemical compound used or whether the fluoride is present naturally or added to the water supply.” Fluoride Research

Nonetheless, in 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) amended its Public Health Service recommendations to mandate that fluoride levels not exceed 0.7 milligrams per liter, rather than the 0.7 to 1.2 milligrams per liter that had been recommended for the previous 50 years. The reasons supplied for the change included an increase in instances of dental fluorosis – a yellow or brown staining of the teeth caused by fluoride – as well as the fact that Americans are being bombarded with fluoride from several different sources, which was not the case in the past.

A new meta-analysis conducted by researchers from New Zealand, and led by William Hirzy, Ph.D., a former senior EPA scientist who assessed risk for the agency, has found that the fluoridation of water is directly linked to a reduction in the IQ of exposed children. The study was entitled Developmental neurotoxicity of fluoride: A quantitative risk analysis towards establishing a safe daily dose of fluoride for children. The study compared the fluoride exposure of groups of children with low IQs to those whose IQs are higher and found that the higher the exposure to fluoride, the lower the IQ.

The study conclusion reads: “The information now available supports a reasonable conclusion that exposure of the developing brain to fluoride should be minimized, and that economic losses associated with lower IQ’s may be quite large.” FluorideNews

In 2012, scientists from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health published a study entitled Impact of fluoride on neurological development in children. For the study, which was published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, researchers conducted a systematic meta-review of studies from China, where the risk of fluoridation has already been well-documented. A team that included lead researcher Philippe Grandjean, adjunct professor of environmental health at the Harvard School of Public Health, analyzed the IQ levels of 8,000 school-age children exposed to fluoride in their water supply. Their conclusion? “High fluoride content in water may negatively affect cognitive development. The average loss in IQ was reported as a standardized weighted mean difference of 0.45, which would be approximately equivalent to seven IQ points for commonly used IQ scores with a standard deviation of 15.”

One can only hope that the growing body of evidence revealing the damage of fluoridating water will start to sway public favor to the point that more pressure is applied to the CDC and other relevant federal agencies so that there can be a change in official policy in this regard. Until then, it is more important than ever to ensure that you are filtering your family’s drinking water through a very high-quality water purification system.

In Canada, the new Prime Minister (enamoured over the past 8 years) has taken a quasi-Obama approach, and as a result we now see a rise in antisemitism in Montreal, Toronto (and elsewhere).

In the US we are witness to antisemitism against a Trump appointee, David Friedman as US Ambassador to Israel. The so-called Reform(ers) have come out against him, and now we also have a Senator come out glaringly against Friedman, by raising the canard of loyalty to the US, because he is Jewish. WHITE HOUSE CONDEMNS BOMB THREATS TARGETING JEWISH CENTERS

The White House responded to a reporter’s query about the latest string of bomb threats called in to Jewish community centers by saying “these actions are unacceptable.”

“Hatred and hate-motivated violence of any kind have no place in a country founded on the promise of individual freedom,” reads a statement, attributed to White House press secretary Sean Spicer, that was shared Monday afternoon by NBC News correspondent Peter Alexander. “The President has made it abundantly clear that these actions are unacceptable.”

Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, who is Jewish, condemned the threats in a Tweet that pointed to the fact that the targets were Jewish. JPost

“America is a nation built on the principle of religious tolerance,” she said. “We must protect our houses of worship and religious centers.” She ended the tweet with the hashtagged acronym for Jewish community center, “#JCC”.

Earlier in the day, 11 Jewish community centers across the United States were targeted with false bomb threats, the fourth such wave of harassing phone calls in five weeks.

On Monday, February 20, the JCC Association of North America said that since Jan. 9 there have been 69 bomb threat incidents at 54 JCCs in 27 states and one Canadian province. ALL WERE HOAXES. SENATOR MENENDEZ AND THE POLLARD EFFECT

Caroline Glick: Pollard’s disproportionate punishment is a powerful expression of official, state-sanctioned antisemitism in America.

“Friedman is a Jewish attorney. He is unapologetic about his support for Israel. The fact that unlike his liberal Jewish predecessors, Friedman does not make his support for Israel contingent on Israel’s willingness to appease the territorial and other demands of the PLO, made him the subject of withering criticism at the hands of several Democratic lawmakers.”

“While unpleasant, the scathing criticism Democratic senators leveled against Friedman was within the bounds of legitimate debate. [. . .] What was not within the bounds of legitimate debate however, was a question that Democratic Senator Robert Menendez posed to Friedman. 

Noting that Friedman is “very passionate about Israel,” Menendez asked Friedman to assure the senators that his loyalty and commitment lay with the US, rather than with Israel. Menendez’s query was beyond the pale because it wasn’t about Friedman’s positions. It was about his Judaism. Inherent to Menendez’s question was a barely disguised insinuation: Jews who are passionate about Israel cannot be trusted by their fellow Americans. There are many distressing aspects to Menendez’s decision to use an antisemitic line of questioning against Friedman

. It is distressing, for instance, that liberal Jewish groups like the Anti-Defamation League did not condemn the liberal lawmaker for trafficking in antisemitism.

Pollard is proof of American antisemitism. . . .Pollard though is not unique. Korean Americans, Japanese Americans, Italian Americans, French Americans, Irish and German Americans have also transferred American secrets to foreign governments with which they felt a kinship. To the extent they transferred secrets to states that are allies of the US, they received prison sentences that ranged on average between two to five years and served their terms in minimum security prisons until they were released back into society and free to leave the US.

Pollard, in contrast, was railroaded by the US justice system. He was given a life sentence and served for 30 years in maximum security prisons. He spent his first 10 years in prison in solitary confinement. [like Sharansky in Communist Russian prison]. Every day Pollard is subjected to prejudicial treatment by the US justice system is another day that the US is officially persecuting an American Jew, not because he breached his oath to protect US secrets, but because he did so as a Jew. THE NYT: ANTISEMITISM POLISHED

The New York Times has published an article on Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, that implies he holds a certain, extreme position.

The article, “For Kushner, Israeli Policy May Be Shaped by the Personal,” paints an important picture about the life of Jared Kushner, who is now overseeing aspects of Mideast policy. In a subtle jab, the Times says this about a specific viewpoint .

Some teachers told students that “Palestinian” was a made-up identity, a label adopted for political reasons. [sic! how correct]

It is a fact that before the 1920s, the term “Palestinian” did not apply to Arabs living in the area. It was the term used to describe Jews and Christians. Any implication that the “Palestinians” are a specific identity with a deep history is wrong. There is no evidence of an Arab people calling themselves Palestinians before the 1920s.

Prominent Middle East analyst Daniel Pipes points out in “The Origins of the Palestinian Arabs”:

MOSLEMS WEST OF THE JORDAN DIRECTED THEIR ALLEGIANCE TO DAMASCUS, WHERE THE GREAT-GREAT-UNCLE OF JORDAN’S KING ABDULLAH II WAS THEN RULING; THEY IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES AS SOUTHERN SYRIANS. IN JULY 1920, HOWEVER, THE FRENCH OVERTHREW THIS HASHEMITE KING, IN THE PROCESS KILLING THE NOTION OF A SOUTHERN SYRIA.

ISOLATED BY THE EVENTS OF APRIL AND JULY, THE MOSLEMS OF PALESTINE MADE THE BEST OF A BAD SITUATION. Muslims and Muslim sympathizers protested Donald Trump today in New York’s Times Square. Chelsea Clinton boasted about being there with her daughter, Charlotte. Hamas darling, Linda Sarsour was also there spreading hysteria and propaganda about President Donald Trump. 



There was also a loud Arab call to prayer during this protest in NYC. In an Islamic call to prayer (adhan), the Muslim is shouting Allahu Akbar which translates to ‘G-d is greater’ or ‘G-d is greatest’. They mean that their ‘god’ is greater than your god and/or the government. This is a blatant act of Islamic supremacy. GatewayPundit

ASTUTE OBSERVATIONS BY READERS:

It is increasingly distressing to witness what seems to be a leftward slide by The Jerusalem Post. However, I was momentarily humored by two separate items in your February 19 issue.

The editorial “Trump in denial” seemed to blame the US president for the rise in antisemitism in America. But the antisemitic acts are being committed mainly on college campuses by the Left, not by Trump supporters! Why not place the blame where it belongs – on the Democrats?

Then, in the news article “Reform Jews oppose Friedman as US envoy,” JTA quotes the president of the Union for Reform Judaism, Rabbi Rick Jacobs, as saying that David Friedman is not qualified to be an ambassador. That’s the same Rick Jacobs who is a champion of J Street, the New Israel Fund and a host of other leftist causes.

So one guy who is surely not qualified to be a rabbi is labeling an eminently qualified attorney as being unable to represent the views of his client, the president of the United States.

“Top US officials contradict Trump on two-state solution”

[just “WHO” are these top officials?? 'Media Matters' again?]

[. . .] according to these officials, “the United States remains committed to a two-state solution.” This raises two questions: Why are US officials so adamant in sticking to a policy that has failed dismally for the past 50 years, and Why does the US, together with the EU and the UN, have policies at all on the matter?

There is no US policy on the independence movement in Spain’s Catalonia. There is no US policy on the plight of Western Papua, which was illegally seized by Indonesia. There is no US policy on Scottish independence from Britain. So why is there a US policy on the Arab-Israeli conflict?

It was refreshing to hear President Donald Trump announce he was in favor of a policy that Israel and the Palestinians could agree on, whether it involved one state, two states or whatever. Nothing could be more positive in resolving the problem than letting the interested parties know that if they want a change, they must agree upon it themselves rather than rely on the vain hope that some external force will impose a solution in their favor.

It is well known that Israelis in general are averse to ruling another people but are even more averse to allowing an inimical state to be created that could or would threaten their security. Resolving this in a way that is acceptable to all the parties is difficult, but not impossible. However it can only be worked out by the parties themselves, without external interference.

Severe storms and possible tornado leave 40,000 without power in San Antonio, topple a train off its tracks in Austin and shuts down Houston airport while flattening areas of Texas

A powerful storm ripped through Texas beginning late Sunday, moving through San Antonio and Austin before making its way to Houston on Monday morning

In San Antonio, a tornado warning was put in affect around 10pm for some areas of the city and multiple reports came in of one touching down in Alamo Heights

Over 40,000 are without power and at least 150 homes damaged in the wake of the storm, during which 0.43inches of rain fell in less than 30 minutes

Wind gusts were recorded at 80mph overnight and managed to topple a train of its tracks in Austin, were there were few reports of major damage

The storm is now in Houston, where the city's two major airports announced ground stops on Monday, halting all incoming flights. So far no major injuries or deaths have been reported as a result of the storm as crews now get to work dealing with flooding and downed live wires

The bulk of the devastation seems to have resulted from the strong winds, which ripped the roofs off homes and trees out of the ground while even managing to flatten some structures. Power lines were also hit hard by the storm, resulting in the power outages which occurred across San Antonio.

A transmission tower was badly damaged overnight as well, with the winds dragging the top half of the structure to the ground as its power lines were ripped out and bending the tower in half.

The deep carbon reservoir discovered will eventually make its way to the surface through volcanic eruptions and contribute to climate change albeit very slowly, but a sudden release could have dire consequences.

The study, conducted by geologists at Royal Holloway University in London, used a huge network of 583 seismic sensors that measure the Earth's vibrations, to create a picture of the area's deep sub surface. Known as the upper mantle, this section of the Earth's interior is known for by its high temperatures where solid carbonates melt, creating distinctive seismic patterns.

What they found was a vast buried deposit of molten carbon, which produces carbon dioxide and other gases, situated under the Western US, 217 miles (350km) beneath the Earth's surface. As a result of this study, published in Earth and Planetary Science Letters, scientists now believe the amount of CO2 in the Earth's upper mantle may be up to 100 trillion metric tons.
