First prayer heard at the Western Wall in Jerusalem 1934 JERUSALEM Jul 26, 2015
First prayer with soundtrack filmed at the Western Wall in Jerusalem in 1934 from the Keren Hayesod film "For New Lives". The full film covers the entire Land of Israel, but the most moving part for believing Jews is the Sephardic prayer at the Western Wall, which was immortalized in the film.
For pioneers, the most moving parts are of course: "Shir HaEmek" and other songs by Nathan Alterman. I adapted the new version with Hebrew subtitles to mark the film's 75th anniversary. This year we are celebrating the 80th anniversary of the film's premiere, which was screened in 1935 at the Zion Cinema in Jerusalem, and at the Migdalor Cinema in Tel Aviv.
The full film is available at the Spielberg Archive, at the Hebrew University, Tel. 02-5882513
