The head of an Ashkenazi Haredi faction in the Knesset is drawing media attention this morning in Israel.
When addressing the issue of Haredi participation in the defense of the country, he threatened:
"If there is no choice and they must leave the country, they will go.” Yitzchak Goldknopf said, “The country will be without haredim. The haredim will not change their way of life because there is an army and a war. There is an army, and there are people who will join it. If you need 50,000 soldiers, consider drafting those who are avoiding service.
There are 100,000 avoiding service in Tel Aviv, in the Dan region.”
When asked about his opinion on the religious Zionist community, which has a significantly higher number of IDF casualties than their demographic weighting, Goldknopf responded, “Their pain is theirs, and our pain is ours. Don’t bring me your pain and pass it on to me. Let’s decide on our terms, each with our priorities.
These words come after the former Sephardic chief Rabbi, Yitzchak Yosef, said;
”If they force us to go to the army, we’ll all move abroad. We’ll buy a ticket… We’ll go there.
I imagine in my mind's eye, Mayor Mamdani at JFK, welcoming hundreds of thousands of refugees seeking asylum from Zionist oppression.
Surely the Muslim mayor of London will do the same.
Or Belgium, where circumcision is banned, or other friendly Jewish centers like France, Canada, or Australia.
Surely the enlightened world is vying for the opportunity to support Haredi refugees and to ease their "pain".
Never-ending Torah bliss is just a plane ticket away.
Advice: Buy a two-way ticket.
You never know.
