In this wide-ranging Torah Q&A, Rabbi Yitzchak Breitowitz addresses one of the most fundamental questions in Jewish history: How do we know that the Judaism practiced today is connected to the Torah received at Sinai? The Rambam describes an unbroken chain of transmission from Moshe to Yehoshua and through more than forty generations until Rav Ashi. According to this traditional model, the Oral Torah remained present even when Tanach said very little about the scholars and institutions preserving it.
