“ We never dreamed we would reach such a state of wickedness and cruelty. And what is their ‘sin’? That they study Torah! Has such a thing ever been heard of? Every single one of us should be crying day and night. The holy Shechinah is surely in great pain, but with G-d’s help, we will not give up. Without Torah, we are truly like animals; we have no life, no purpose for living in such a manner.”
“They are accursed evildoers, the most accursed of the accursed, but with G-d’s help they will not succeed. We have a hidden strength: the heart of a Jew will never abandon Judaism. The holy Torah is our life and the length of our days; we meditate on it day and night, and may Your love never be taken from us forever.”
At this point, Rabbi Sternbuch broke down in bitter tears, saying:
“Oy, oy — find me a place where I can cry and shed tears. We will not give up, and this voice we will raise everywhere in Israel and abroad.”
At the end of his words, he called upon Jews abroad to join the protest of the Eda HaChareidis in Israel:
“We call upon our brothers in the Diaspora: do not remain silent! Know that this trouble will reach you as well. Do not think you will be exempt. Act with self-sacrifice and you will succeed. I promise you that you will succeed, and we will see it with our own eyes very soon.”
