Right-wing Israeli news anchor to support a yeshiva student!

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Right-wing Israeli news anchor Yinon Magal decided to buck the trend of anti-charedi sentiment which had been fueled in recent weeks by the High Court’s threats to cut off funding to yeshiva students who are eligible for the draft.

Magal, a secular person who does not wear a kippa, said that the sum of money for a yeshiva student comes to 395 NIS ($110 per month) and for a married avreich- 650 NIS ($190 per month). Altogether there are some 40000 yeshiva students and some 25000 married students. He added that if the state funding stops, he himself will fund a yeshiva student and will initiate a campaign to fund all of the yeshiva students and avreichim.

” I believe that many will join me,” Magal concluded. He stressed that “We will only fund those that are learning,[not those registered to avoid the draft] but they won’t let us destroy the world of Torah. Whoever is not learning should enlist but whoever is learning must be supported.”

This is a very important development, if it materializes. The only zehut this medinat has is its funding of Torah learning. Now that it will lose the zehut, and instead private individuals will step up to fund Torah scholars (getting the mitzvah instead, even if they don't realize it), then there is no reason for the medinat to exist. And for this reason, we will soon see its collapse.
