We must word our prayers more carefully, lest they be ineffective
The existential danger to the nation as a whole appeared only thanks to our meisisim and meidichim [those who push us to serve idolatry or otherwise abandon the Torah], starting with the false prophets in the days of the first Beis Hamikdash, and after them the Tzedokim during Bayis Sheni, and after the destruction the Minim, the Karaites, and the like, until the latter generations of the students of the Berlin haskalah [“enlightenment”] and their offspring, which are the political parties of our days, as all of these groups in the different periods in their various forms — all of them are from the same species; they merely take off one shape and put on another shape according to the spirit of the time.
They are all agents of the same Satan, who constantly strives to set up from our midst and inside us falsehood [and] traitors, whose goal is to disconnect Jews from their source of the life, from the Torah; he is the commander of all their camps, and they are merely his troops.
Rav Elchonon Wasserman wrote these words over 100 years ago in an essay we translated and discussed in part 28 of our series on his prophetic teachings. It is embedded above and on Rumble here.
Three years and one day ago I published part four in a series of articles on Amalek, in which we learned how Amalek behaves like shape-shifters to wage war against us.
The article is available on my main site here and I’ve copied it below as well. You can also download the entire series in booklet form here, and I still have printed copies in English and Hebrew for free distribution. Email me if you’d like one or to help distribute them.
Here is a practical suggestion that I hope you will share and discuss with people after reading the article:
Instead of davening for Hashem to defeat Hamas, for example, daven for Hashem to expose and destroy whoever orchestrated and perpetrated the carnage on October 7. I have my theories and you have yours, but only the latter prayer would be effective regardless of who is right. That’s how we should phrase it, and we should all be able to agree on this.
Instead of davening for Hashem to protect us from “Iranian” and “Yemenite” attacks, daven for Hashem to destroy whoever is actually behind these attacks. If it was really the leaders of Iran and Yemen — and strictly them — nothing lost. But if the narrative is false, your prayers might have excluded the actual perpetrators, or some of the masterminds behind the attacks.
Amalek goes to great length to trick us so our prayers will be off the mark and therefore ineffective. The solution is to pray in slightly more general terms, without assuming we know the exact identity of the people attacking us. We have nothing to lose by doing this, and everything to gain. We should all be able to agree on this approach even if we disagree on what’s really going on.
Seriously, modify your personal prayers and bring this up with your shul. Our main weapon is the voice of Yaacov, and it behooves us to learn how to use our weapon most effectively.
A couple of recent photos to consider:
A recent advertisement for a Global Economic Conference in Tel Aviv, with the headline “Global Economy. New World Order.”
I’m sure it’s nothing…
